You can use upside down waterlogged stairs to hide them better. If you make them stone brick stairs they should blend well in these ruins.

for the stairs, if you do the ruin style, you could put the stone bricks one upside down, so that it looks like stone bricks blocks. there is no stairs in the ruins floor, so this is better for a hidden entrance

Hi there, I'm one of those redstone people. ;P FYI it is possible to use arrows without the arrow keeping the door open. The short version is to use a rising-edge-sensitive pulse generator. That is to say, instead of activating the timer with the pressure plate's signal directly, you want to filter that signal: use a circuit that detects when its input signal (the pressure plate) goes from off to on ("rising edge"), and outputs a short pulse that is connected to the timer. The only way to re-activate the timer after that is to remove the arrow so the pressure plate signal goes off, and then hit it with an arrow again to create a new rising edge, and a new pulse to the timer. If any of y'all want to try that out, google "rising edge detector minecraft", the wiki has a few simple circuits that do this - the "circuit breaker limiter" design would fit nicely anywhere along the long line from the plate to the timer. This, of course, has the disadvantage that even though the door is closed now, the arrow would be visible for five minutes (?) before it despawns, which could be suspicious and lead someone to figuring out the key to the hidden base. On the other hand, arrows are easier to come by than a trident and the loyalty enchantment.

When dealing with redstone, you should always colorcode with wool or colored concrete. That helps to show where one redstone line is going and what is connected to it. Watch some mumbo too ;)

I like how Grian, of all people, used a way more complex pulse extender than needed. For those who don't know what I'm referring to: if you put comparators in a line, put 2 pieces of Redstone, and loop back with the comparators [connect that end too,] you have a pulse extender.
