"I'd park at some tourist parking area and just sleep in my car until the sun came up so I wouldn't annoy anyone." If there was ever any doubt that Alexi was actually Japanese, this sentence is the most Japanese thing I've ever read. I WISHED my neighbor cared even a tenth this much about making noise, but they've decided honking their horn several times at 7 in the morning to get their car pool mate to come out (instead of using modern technology like texts) is a good idea.

This is great! I totally can relate to your garage stories. I had a nice place with my friends when I got my drivers license. Most of them moved on in life and landlord got some new weird people to share the space (untidy, lots of people just hanging there, heavy drinking on weekends). I had to leave that place after 4 years. I got little parking garage from residential block and car just sat there for 3 years. I got motivated to working on my project car again, but then I lost that one again because someone complained about noises I made working there. After that I got back to my old landlord who happened to have free place near my old garage i started with. Had that place shared with only 1 guy who was LS (+turbo) swapping Jaguar XJ. It was the best place i have worked in, but sadly the owner sold the building and new owner soon kicked us out to make room for repairshop next door grow bigger. I understood the need for making business bigger, but 2 weeks was short time to empty a whole garage full of car parts and empty shell. Luckily I had bought my own house that year and had a small shed in it to keep all the parts and my tools in dry warm space. Car is just sitting now outside with basicly waiting for me to build a garage on my land. Hopefully I manage to save some money and build 3 car garage in couple of years to start working on cars again. Have a nice day Alexi!

would not recommend them. They are a complete pain.
@haphazard1342
@haphazard1342 2 жыл бұрын
I disagree. QuickJacks are significantly more convenient than a floor jack and jack stands. Also raises higher than most jack stands (still not super high, but every inch counts). Of course they're not as nice and convenient as a full vehicle lift. They're not as nice as a half-measure like MaxJax (which might also be a good choice for this workshop, if the floor is suitable).
@HDRAus
@HDRAus 2 жыл бұрын
@@haphazard1342 agreed. Have the ability to move them around and are significantly more practical if you cannot fit a hoist. Can also lock them in the 🆙 position.
@triggerthesound767
@triggerthesound767 2 жыл бұрын
@@haphazard1342 If they work for you then good. I found they take more time than using one floor hack and jack stands. Quickjack takes endless adjusting, getting down on your knees, lifting a bit, adjust again. Then if you want to use jackstands they are impossible because quickjack does not lift straight up or drop straight down. If you trust the locking bars then this isn’t an issue. Moving them around is another huge problem, they are very cumbersome and take up a huge amount of space.
@haphazard1342
@haphazard1342 2 жыл бұрын
@@triggerthesound767 And that's a totally fair critique. In my case the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. I prefer the fiddling with QuickJacks for vehicle alignment to the multi-phase lifting required to get to maximum height on traditional jack stands. I can't reach a center jack point for the front or rear once the other end is in the air, and tilting the car side to side while partially on jack stands is very unpleasant and sketchy. I'd rather have a two post, of course, but alas ceiling heights prohibit that and eliminate much of the potential benefit.

I personally feel bad making so much noise dragging my jack across the street to get to he lot, hammering, and starting an open header V8 at 8am. My neighbors say they didn't mind though and say the noise is "just how loud old cars used to be." Looking for a space now just to get away from whoever keeps breaking into my daily. Congrats on the space. glad to see you moving forward and continuijg to making progress.

Oh god the floor jack part is so accurate. I've been renting for going on 9 years now, and I had to take my floor jack out of the garage to the car parked in the lot to change my tires (other car already in the garage had half the engine out and up on stands). It was only about 6 meters distance but the sound of the floor jack bouncing along the asphalt is loud enough to wake the dead.

Gotta say having a space like this enabled me to be able to casually work on my car without a worry in the world. It has been the single most therapeutic thing ive ever done in my life. Just what you needed!!

My garage is less than 2 of my wingspans from wall to wall and the cars barely fit in that little space. Gets uncomfortable sometimes, but it works at least. Seeing good cars running out of there is always a joy ngl.

Whoa whoa! Nine cars!? You could fit nine cars in your shed? You lucky bastid!!! Some of us is just glad of any undercover space. As it's amazing what just having any undercover workspace can do for project productivity. Still. I are disappoint with lack of shed skid! Then again, yeah probably best to keep the shenanigans down to a minimum 👍.
