The New World Expansion, Rise of the Angry Earth, has been revealed! We also got to see the official New World Expansion Trailer, which sets the tone for the reworked First Light into a new zone: The Elysian Wilds. In this zone, we'll be fighting Artemis and her Angry Earth armies. The new expedition in the zone is called "The Savage Divide" and here, one of the bosses seems to be an angry earth Mammoth, as well as potentially a minotaur. The expansion gives us access to mounts, the Primal Fury Heartrune, Artifact gear with 6 perks and so much more. It comes with a new weapon, the Flail, which revolves around buffing and debuffing. Various skill have a new maximum. The level cap is now 65, the max gear score is 700 and trade skills can go up to 250. Other aspects of the game will also be reworked in New World Season 3, especially the Influence Race system. Expertise, Ward, Bane and Resilient will all be removed from the game.

Bro, i think it is going to be 1 additional perk on artifact. We currently have 5 - atribute, gem slot + 3 perks. I think this is a way AGS counts them

As someone who just returned last week to New World, and had no idea they were even planning an expansion, I am a bit excited. I will be getting the expansion as long as I enjoy leveling 1-60 since I never hit 60 when I originally played. Most things that are being locked out if you dont have the expansion seem pretty normal for MMO's. The one oddity that stands out is the weapon type. Completely locking that behind the expansion seems a little weird. Overall I really hope this expansion does well for New World, even though I stopped playing for a long while, I do enjoy the game and have hopes for it.

The weapon type is less surprising when you consider that New World essentially treats a new weapon as a new class these days. Most MMOs typically lock classes behind the expansion, so from that perspective it makes more sense.

@@VeNoMz_ they are having a laugh at this point with BG3 out Star and diablo. Im on us west and we don't even reach more than 2k players across both servers at peak. Now they want to mix two types of players in war,opr, and expeditions Those who payed 30 dollars to get to gs700 and level 65 And those who did not pay getting steamrolled by gs700 and lvl65 players Funny! Considering the only talking point they have had is "BALANCE" for the last 6 months

I think as far as the price and what you get is concerned, it is a little high for the current offering. But, it's also likely that additional free content will come, like Brimstones Sands, that is only available to those at the new max 65 and therefore becomes an extension of the expansion content

Hi DukeSloth, what are your thoughts on the gating of power of expansion vs non-expansion owners? I can imagine if the Artifact items, flail or new heartrune become 'meta' or are considered must-haves to participate in high level pvp that there will be a fairly large discrepancy in power in that regard. Would love to hear your thoughts.

artifacts weapo or heartrune is devatible about being meta, it can but it wont make that big impact. But the gear score increase i think it's more impactfull against those who don't pay the expansion.

thats completly fake, other game's expansions might bring VARIETY to the game and some builds might get meta, but that doesn't make the old ones a fluke. For example gw2 there are plenty of Core builds (vainilla game builds) that are still viable today 11 years later with 4 expansions on top. You can have horizontal progression in a game that only brings variety of gameplay instead bringing vertical progression and lock it behind an expansion. If players need to pay $30 to get gear score upgrades it will mean that in order to be able to compete in pvp you need to spend money and make it kinda p2w@@geassmuffin

yeah, you realistically won't compete in ANY end game content without the expansion. But tbf the base game only costs 40€ so add the expansion and it has the price of other AAA games released nowadays. Pretty cheap for a MMO where you easily spend 1000h to be able to enjoy that content anyway.

How optmized is the game today? I remember when I got my 3070ti, playing at 1080p on Ultra quality I was getting between 80-120fps open world BUT, but only 30-60fps inside cities. Never understood why, had the exact same problem on my old 2080Super as well.

@@jkN1337mounts are not just for getting around. They are something you can collect and customize as extra content. It is obviously a fun feature to have and goes beyond just moving around faster. You also feel cooler when moving around on a mount

Yeah everything looks good except mutations being locked behind the expansion cost, that is very iffy for me. They reduced the amount of mutation levels so more people would be able to find a group but then immediately cut some people out because they don’t have access to it lol.

They said u can have 3 artifacts equiped: 1 armor, 1 weapon, 1 jewerly. Umbre shards will be removed. They will give gold for them but they didn't say ratio of that exchange. Dunno what about gypsum orbs and boxes.

IMO, the expansion will flop. It will be on sale soon. The base game has been on sale for 20 dollars. The devs want someone that paid 20 dollars for the base game to pay another 30 dollars for buggy crap expansion. The devs took away a zone for players that already bought the game, but now the devs want players to pay 30 dollars to get the 1 zone back with some new textures and skins. The 5 player levels will probably take about 3 hours to finish, just like season 1 and season 2 content. What an absolute robbery!

IDK do I want to pay $30 for mounts, influence re-work, new zone, and new expedition... they havent even touched the desync issue and war crashing issue, and they killed crafting. I have 3k+ hrs on NW but I finally stopped playing Season 2. I'm not very optimistic about it :/

It is not even a new zone. Devs stole the zone from players, then rework some textures and put some new animal skins on things... and the devs think most player will pay to get back what was taken from them. Things like mounts and a mace/ flail should have been in day 1. Two years after day 1, "ah guys give me 30 dollars more!" This will be the final straw that destroyed this game. Good riddance to it and AGS.

Mutation's are end game content a free player wouldn't even have the gear to damage the mobs with the scaling so no they couldn't do them. Plus the ptr is a free trial for the expansion, so yes all owners of the current game have the ability to try it.

I think how progression is intended now is that you start with a certain gearscore activity like genesis for 500-525 drops, laz for 525-550, tempests 550-575, barnacles 575-600, ennead 600-625, emp forge 625-650, divide 650-675 & mutations for any dungeon 675-700. Those numbers are wildly off but around that area and all endgame sources would have a gearscore min and max from world bosses, arenas, opr, war, open world pve and pvp etc. This basically means instead of gearscore grinding on one dungeon like genesis or expertise dailies you work your way up the dungeons/activities at your own pace. Since expertise is leaving you might be able to instantly buy 700gs or if it still follows a HWM system then you could instantly buy 700gs and it would go down to 600 and you could skip some dungeons/steps. Effectively the game wants us to focus on Horizontal progression and owning heaps of different gearsets and unique items than leveling up. So getting to 700gs drops from divide etc is probably extremally quick, like a week pr less to get to Elysian Endgame. I also believe that 625 will be the recommended entry GS for the Elysian MSQ which will probably then give you a 650 set or higher.

I actually really enjoyed the world...wandering through it...stuff to gather and see. Its beautiful and I liked that many zones were modeled after real landscapes across the USA and possibly other places. Mounts...eh? I guess.

Why couldnt they create a whole new island / zone / aread and expanded in stead of re-using First Light ... weaksauce :( as for the leveling of items. Dark Age of Camelot had artifacts that you could level to level 10 . each few levels it unlocks a new "ability" or stat and at max level would have a special proc or stat ability that would do sometthing. Mixing and matching artifacts would then give you a meta or BIS setup using some or all slots as artifacts. Leveling required killing or farming specific mob types etc. This could be interesting but i have some huge concerns here ... as for a paid expansion , happy to pay as long as they fix some of the old and exisitng GAME BREAKING bugs when it comes to PVP.

Good comments but i do think your opinion at the end is wrong. Devs should stop worrying about "some players" because they MIGHT not like this or that and just focus on making the game good which will automatically attract players. Inclusivity is poison

Not sure how AGS considers this an expansion, much less charging for it. Seems more like a cash grab at this point. They revamped a map we already had, and added things that were past due to (what seems like to me) lump in a bunch of bells and whistles to make it feel like it's worth $30. Sure, the $70 price is the same as most typical AAA games today, but New World hasn't quiet achieved AAA quality yet.Hell Brimstone had the same amount of content and that was free. I'm as big of a fan as you are Duke. I'm well over 8k hours deep, but I think they blew it on this turn, and I'm just not interested in paying for content, when they still refuse to address bugs that have been in the game since beta.

Interesting, the Devs continue to perpetuate their fraud on players/ customers. Customer sees game play and reviews, then buys game. $30 for expansion when they are clearly not helping the game as is seems bad idea. its down to less then 10,000 players and thats including bots. putting up a pay wall to access flail, mounts, and to get to max will not help the player count in long run i believe.

Sure bro, pay 30 dollars to mindlessly farm and grind for another 1000 hours. The expansion will probably be 3 hours of crap, just like season 1 and season 2... but this time you get to pay for Frist Light coming back and for 5 more levels! It has already been proven that AGS cannot make games... I'm going to take muh 30 dollars and buy a full game from Steam, and it will be a better game than this trash fire. However, people can do as they wish. Some of AGS' paypigs spent 30+ dollars on skins a month.

I'm disappointed. Since you cannot reach 65 or gs700 without the expansion, now you pretty much have to buy it. On top of that, the expansion is offering so little, and they are not even talking anymore about official controller support. This announcement to me smells like my farewell to this game.

Elysian Wilds is new, lets be real FL was never a zone it had occasional wars and that was it(btw Edengrove is becoming a Territory)

Yeah, funny thing about that. Where I come from, when someone takes something I already paid for away, then we call that robbery/ fraud. I would like to see any other company do this. Wake-up one day and see the car manufacture stealing the upgraded wheels and radio from a car. They say, "we are going to rework it and it will be back in 3 months." 3 moths later: they want more money for the wheels and the radio back than the original price of the car. Just call it the wheels and radio DLC. I hope AGS goes broke and closes shop. It's like a restaurant that made me sick, so I enjoy seeing it losing customers. Then one day, I'm driving down the road, and I see it finally closed, and laugh!

They are neutering the base game and the community seem ok with it. Everyone who don't buy the expansion essentially owns a demo now.

30 usd is too much, and this expansion will probably be the final nail for the game's coffin. Nobody is gonna come back to a game they stopped playing 2 years ago to buy an expansion that costs that much. Hell, even a considerable portion of people who play new world now won't buy the expansion, least not for a month or two after its release. Maybe I'll be wrong.

Go learn Economics, what AGS and many other shameless Devs do is effectively sell us a false game, say its Early access, then gradually over many years try to eventually build the game they promised to sell you in the beginning. I didn't follow the game enough to know its popularity these days but most of these changes are long overdue and introducing them with a paid expansion seems like the wrong move here. I personally won't buy it because I think they should have given us these with the base game. Anyway thanks for the update.

Think about it like this. With the expansion launching with the game at $70, that is the same price as new games nowadays. Up until now the game was in a balance (beta) state even though it has launched as a full game. Companies need money to continue supporting their games. $30 isn't much, plus its supporting the game. It takes time to make changes.

I've been traumatized in the first years of ESO with the character level incrase. Because that means that all of the sudden your lvl 60 gear could possibly become obsolete and you'll have to farm everything again for the 65 version. I hope they'll find a way to bypass this.

Is this a joke? THIS is the expansion they were working on? Am I hearing this right: I can’t play the end game even though I have the original game since launch because in order to do that I need to spend 30dollars? And the transmog: it’s 2 dollars for one slot of one piece of armor, that’s already free in the game, just lying around, just to put it on another piece? 2 dollars?

Any sense of completionism that I might have come back for, in terms of collecting armor or mounts or whatever, they killed that. They’re not looking to bring people back to this game but milk the few that are left
