Small correction: Joseph Saelee had previously achieved 57 lines past killscreen in a friendly game vs Cheez_Fish back in Feburary. His 57 lines in this game still is a new tournament record for the Classic Tetris Monthly and ties the overall world record for longest killscreen game.

It is totally insane how quickly the skill level is ramping up. I got a 600k+ score recently and thought, "Once upon a time, this might have qualified me to play in CTWC, even if I'd be the worst player there." I think those days are now well and truly over.

I am one of those people that has discovered the joy of tetris from Rob and Jonas. I've been totally binge watching all the previous CTWC tournaments and found my way here some how. This channel is great, the community is great, the game is great. Keep doing what you're doing! 👍

I've been very impressed with the fact that even with an explosion of new hypertappers, Joseph still has a legitimate claim to be best in the world.

@@aGameScout Joseph is the post-level 30 pioneer. First to reach level 31, then 32 , 33, and 34. And now, he's been only 3 lines away from 35...twice. Joseph has inspired a whole new generation of next-level Tetris players, and has spearheaded the Hypertap Revolution.

Thank you for doing these videos. I learned about the Classic Tetris World Championships because of your channel about a year or so ago, and you've helped me fall in love with Tetris all over again. I wouldn't say I'm "good" just yet but I'm playing Tetris 99 for about an hour every day and I'm usually making it into the top ten before inevitably being eliminated. Unfortunately while I LOVE Classic Tetris I much prefer handheld gaming, and the Switch may as well have been made specifically for me. I'm getting better but more importantly I'm having fun, and I'm preaching the gospel of Tetris to my friends and family.

I follow the competitive tetris scene since 2014, and the level is insane now. Hypertapping was rare in 2014 but now that's normal, the same for the maxouts ! Since 2017-2018, the level has increased exponentialy with a "new generation" of younger players (probably because of Joseph's first CTWC win) I'm french so sorry if I make mistakes ;)

I feel bad for all of the new players and ones that want to join the Tetris competitions because they have to learn how to get consistent max outs.

Yeah, for real! Just a year ago I was good enough to get into the main event, haha. I started just a little too late to be able to play in the CTWC, but I got to play in the major online tournaments for a while before they became unattainable to all but the most very elite. I'm sure it's crazy for players who are starting now. However, the CTM does have tiered competitions for literally everyone who qualifies, so there is a way for anyone to be able to join!

Well at least you find out real quick whether you can compete or not First thing I did was to work on my tapping speed, I knew I was a goner if I couldn't reach 12+Hz consistently I maxed out my tapping at 5-6Hz and my fingers just simply refused to go faster, the dream died quick

This commentary was extremely good. Maybe the best classic tetris commentary I ever heard. Although I really love the "BOOM, TETRIS FOR JONAS!" style from the main yearly event, this seemed like the most educated commentary ever. It was like the commentator actually knew what was going through the player's minds. The only "slip-up" (extremely, extremely minor) I feel was not mentioning the l-piece tuck at around 12:18.

When I was playing Tetris on my NES after Christmas 1989, I imagined I could get to be pretty good at the game. I never imagined this kind of quality gameplay thirty years later! Kudos to all of you!

This was literally insane I haven't watched any of the 2020's vids about Tetris aside from this one and I'm preety shocked RN I mean, they were excellent players, no strings attached. Never dreamed of a level 29 tetris during a competition happening, I'm way too excited to see this pace, it's amazing

it was more of a remark of how dog had just maxed for the third time in a row and he still didn't have the lead. I like both dog and eric and was rooting for them both to do the best they could
