I will tell you exactly what you are in for if you watch this video, so there are no surprises except what engine we actually got. We have been looking for an engine for the v8 ski with a particular quality that is also within the budget. We will be searching the wreaking yard for said elusive engine. Finding the seemingly perfect junkyard jewel of an engine. Removing the engine with much difficulty, and dealing with challenges that we didn't see coming. Taking it home, investigating the condition of said LS engine by tearing it down. And investigating further if this engine came with highly sought after cylinder heads. All in the typical JS brothers style, fast paced editing and normal JSB haphazard antics.

Let me put on my internet expert hat... Lemme tell you somethin, you think 85 is fast? I've got a 1991 Kawasaki SuperChicken that doesn't run yet but when I was towing it home, I got the truck up to 55mph, which is the same as 85mph so its really not that fast. For real though, man 85 has got to feel like light speed. I've serviced and repaired a lot of skis, everything from gp1800r's, ultra 310x's, rxt-x-300s, down to 94 wr3gp's and 587 seadoo sp's. Each one is fun in its own way, but not a single one will touch 80, This thing of yours is absolutely incredible and so cool. Keep doing what you're doing guys, always exciting to see what you're up to.

The 243/799 are the heads all the LS fanboys want. I buy the long blocks for $500 and sell those heads outright for $400, then install the standard 706/862 heads which have slightly smaller valves. They have 61cc chambers VS the 65cc chamber on the 243/799. the 706/862 head MAKE MORE POWER than the heads everyone wants. The added compression more than makes up for them flowing a little less. Also make sure to get new GM plastic lifter trays, they control the lifters are are super critical... Also the DOD units won't work. You can also bore the 5.3 out to 5.7 and run ls1 3.9" bore pistons.

Finally had the time to watch this video and you guys didnt dissappoint. Not that you ever do, but this one really hit the spot, it had just the right amount of shenanigans. Loved to see the weight... Oh, and you guys would sweat bullets to learn what an "LS" costs here in euroland... I am actually a bit pissed off there is still, as far as I know, no credible and good value marine variant or conversion kit of LS motors... still running variants of the good old smallblock. Kind of ridiculous thinking I could then repower my boat for a few hundred dollars and gain horsepower instead of it costing 10 grand+ if I want to do it as it is now...

An aluminum 5.3 would pair well with a side of small turbo at 5 or 6psi. Should be good for nearly 600 crank with a healthy cam and valve spring upgrade at 7000rpm.

A good thing about the LH6 is that it has very thick iron cylinder liners that can be bored out to LS1 size. I wouldn't go that far but .060 over will give some 10 more cubic inches. DOD stands for disappointment on demand. edit: A bad thing about the LH6 is liberating them from the vehicle. Everything interferes with everything else. GM makes a valley cover that blocks off the DOD oil passage crap that they used on 4.8 engines that had the passages but did not have the DOD lifters and cam. I have an Arlington Airport picknpulled LH6 and found the valley cover at picknpull in a 2007 van with a 4.8. Another way to go is use a tap to cut threads in the top of each oil passage hole and thread in plugs to seal them. Good job and good luck with the new engine. 👍

One other thing I was thinking is, the difference in base power between the 5.3 and the 6.0 is only 15 to 30 hp depending on the variants. They both have the exact same 3.622 inch stroke. The 5.3 has a 3.78 inch bore. The 6.0 has a 4inch bore. The power gained from a difference in .22 inches of bore can easily be made up by tuning and boost. The performance advantage of the 6.0 liter over the 5.3 liter isn’t substantial enough for anybody to be obsessing over. I think it is just a psychological thing where everyone feels like they need to have the bigger engine. There are so many 5.3’s out there making serious power. If I had my choice to build a booster ls I would always pick the 5.3. There are so many more of them available and they are significantly cheaper than the 6.0’s. Building boosted or big power engines can increase the likelihood of engine damage or failure. I would rather buy replacement or back up engines that only cost $300 to $600 that are way more plentiful and available with a better chance of finding one with low mileage, than an engine that is $600 to $1200 and becoming harder and harder to get your hands on where you don’t have as much of a selection or chance of finding a low mileage engine. If the goal is to build a naturally aspirated engine and you are trying to make as much power as possible then the advantage of a 6.0 is a bit more obvious, but if building a boosted setup, the advantage of the 6.0 just doesn’t seem as critical. You can gain up the difference in performance easily just by tuning not to mention you will have extra money for better parts by buying a cheaper engine! Bottom line, if anyone commenting that you should have gotten an aluminum 6.0 is an idiot for thinking those are just laying around and readily available in junkyards everywhere lol

Great video ! 100 lbs is a huge weight savings when it comes to something like a jetski... not so much for top speed, but acceleration and handling. I'm sure you will be adding 50lbs of that back on with turbo stuff, haha, but that's really exciting. I'm guessing that the aluminum block also cools a lot better.... Cast iron is not great at getting rid of heat, so managing temps may be easier.... tho I'm guessing it wasn't really a problem. Anyway, it was great to see an update and see what you guys are up to. I saw that you were switching your merch over... I hope it works out.
@JetSkiBrothers
@JetSkiBrothers Жыл бұрын
Exactly we’re losing weight with the aluminum block but we’ll add some back with all the turbo stuff. Yeah engine cooling was not really an issue but hay I won’t devalue the extra heat dissipation 👍 everything is sure to get hotter when adding turbo. Merchandise is weird I kinda want to make money off of it but moreover I want people to be able to get decent jsb merchandise if they want it 👍

I love how unimpressed Milo is while he casually crunches on his snacks! Hahahaha Nice score on the engine! I tried to zoom in on the vin sticker in the door jam and after trying to enhance the image it looked like the 8th digit on the vin was a letter M which means you scored a 2005 LH6 5.3 which is the gen. 4 5.3. It has a 9.9:1 compression ratio compared to the previous 9.5:1, improved heads, improved ignition system, and a higher capacity oil pump amongst many other improvements over the gen. 3 motors. Saving 100 pounds of weight is definitely going to improve the feel of the ski! I’m excited for this new build guys! My only concern is, I believe this engine has the displacement on demand system with the lifter solenoids in the valley under the intake. There is a lot of info online for how to eliminate that system. Other than that and the work involved to make a single turbo setup will be so much fun to watch! I’m so pumped and can’t wait to follow along with you guys! Merry Christmas and happy New Year by the way! Edit: Sorry boys! I did a little gearbox research. I think you only have to fill your gearbox to the center of the bottom gear. The gears turning will do the rest. Also a double wall water cooled cover would be nice. The stroke on the 4.8 is short enough you could actually run it without one if you could get it to hook up. Ideally a 6.2l aluminum block with the 4.8 crankshaft for 5.5 l direct drive that could Turn 8500 rpm:). Anyway, looking forwards to the next iteration.

I can tell you guys don't work on vehicles often because GM, especially trucks and SUVs are the absolute easiest vehicles made to work on. Go climb under a Ford and see how you like that engineered goodness. One thing about going fast on water. Each mile per hour is hard fought and every pound saved is well worth it.
