THE LONG AWAITED NYC APARTMENT TOUR. This is my newest apartment tour, I've lived here with my boyfriend Tyler for about 8 months and we live in Brooklyn but I'm going on my 5th year in NYC! Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll get back to you below! Thanks for watching!
FACTS:
* We live in Brooklyn, NY
* We got super lucky with finding this place
* Ty and I split the rent mostly equal (he pays slightly more).
* Ty is a freelance videographer www.tylerhaft.com and I do KZfaq as my full time job/other side jobs as they come along and have paid my own rent since moving to nyc (I worked full time in retail before)
* We actually pay on the low end of the spectrum for NYC as it was important to us to stay on budget so we chose a place with a little more space but no amenities (like dishwasher, laundry in building, central AC etc.) The more roommates you have the less you will pay in general.
Also an important issue, we are not blind to the issues of gentrification but this is what we can afford and have both built lives here. We most frequently support our local businesses, markets and shop owners and support/vote in ways that would help our community. This however doesn't solve the issue and it is very complex but I wanted to note this and is something to think about if considering moving to NYC.

Being from NYC, specifically Brooklyn, I commend you for your recognition of gentrification plaguing NYC. I’ve lived in Brooklyn my entire life and over the years, there’s been a major shift in what our city is about. Thank you for playing your part in supporting local businesses!

Janie Florial I was born and raised in Nashville, and we are having the same issues. We have always been a small, southern capital city and families have called Nashville home for generations. So much history here. But corporate offices are moving here and hotels are put up on historic grounds and tearing down buildings. Rent for a 1 bedroom apartment is now about $1500 unless you live outside the city, but we don’t have a public transport system in place for someone to commute from the surrounding cities. It’s really affecting minorities that this is the only home they’ve known and theyre now forced to leave. There are 7 universities here and graduates can’t find jobs because the corporate offices are recruiting from outside the city.

To be noted our minimum wage is still the national minimum wage: $7.25. Try affording a one bedroom apartment with that.

That looks like a vintage Dhurrie rug. They were huge in the 1980s. Huge. They were often mixed with southwestern and pastel decor and the scandanavian and southwestern inspired painted furniture that was also very popular at the time. What a blast from the past. Good score.

hadeel I can give you an idea of what it’s like.....The whole of Europe seems to be descending upon all the urban areas like Brookly/Harlem, the landlords are evicting the older tenants who have been living there for ages on fixed incomes/rent stabilization to accommodate the gentrifiers who are also taking jobs out of the community, leaving poor folks homeless, building sky scrapers and not hiring workers from the community, businesses are closing because of new businesses coming in to support their standard of living, it’s just fucked up right now, get the idea???🤪

There is a lot of beaches in NY for surfing. The season starts more in September tho. In Brooklyn, you can even find surf shops. My boyfriend and I tried to go surfing and NY last month but the conditions were not good :(

You should remove the closet doors and replace them with curtains/rods! I’ve done that before when my closet door sucked and it was a game changer! You’ll have easier access, and you can find pretty accent fabric! It’ll make the space feel more airy too!

What a beautiful apartment! I love all the plants. Just wanted to let you know, I’m not sure if your mattress is right on the floor, but if it is, you may want to consider getting something to place it on. I used to have mine right on the floor, but it can cause mold to grow underneath and (I found out the hard way lol) damage the floor. I just have mine on pallets now. Loved the video!! Can’t wait for more!

Wow your apartment is so cool! I love it! It would be so nice to get to really see the things you keep in your closet. Like that closet with coats, and that with all your clothes! I know that a couple of youtubers have done it already, but like a video called "all the things I keep in my closet" or so? Anyways, you are the best!

Maybe you can take out the closet doors and replace them with curtains! You don’t have to throw the doors out because obviously you’re renting but you can hide them away
