Actually I think he hasnt eaten in enough places in the nyc chinatown. Obviously Mike is not a New Yorker. Canal Street is not a chinatown food place. You have to go further down Canal St to get to the food. Not the chinatown part of canal. There's tons of places that are awesome. I'm from nyc and i been going to chinatown forever. Peking Duck House is the best peking duck. I don't care what Mike says. Jin Fung has incredible dim sum and cheap. I love that place. Hop Kee is an Anthony Bourdain fave for a reason. Tai Son is awesome Vietnamese. Bo Kee is the best noodle place and cheap.

Okay. I grew up in Chinatown, spent my days living in Chinatown so I feel like there are certain things that I wanted to touch upon in this video. I get that there aren't a lot of great places to eat, but East Broadway does have more to offer than Mike says. There are a few really good places to eat on those particular streets, particular one which offers an amazing Fuzhounese breakfast. Every friend that I've taken has loved it. Not many are familiar with Fuzhounese food but that's probably why Mike feels like there isn't anything to eat at East Broadway. The place that he says not to go to eat at in the beginning of the video, I agree with not going upstairs to the dim sum place upstairs but there are a few really good places down in the basement. For the jewelry, I agree with Mike. They offer better deals than most western places. My mum has been working at the same company as one of the stores that was shown in the video for maybe 15 years now and used to work at one of the Chinatown locations. Compared to a western jewelry place, they might overcharge you by an extra $3000-$6000 for a piece of jewelry that could be the same quality or greater quality at a Chinese place. I also used to live at Eldridge and honestly, Vanessa's dumplings is just overhyped. It used to be really good but sadly, it's not as good anymore. I feel like they cater more towards their American customers' now.

Hi Mike, I enjoy watching your videos. Just want to let you know that there's actually a small hidden gem inside of 88 East Broadway. It's a fujianese restaurant, located in the basement behind the stairs. Their stream buns, oxtail noodle soup, bian rou (fj wonton), peanut noodle dishes are worth a try, very cheap. You can get all these dishes for about $12. hope u get to try out one day.

Go to Dai Wong, or Big Wong, Cha chaan tang or tea house, it's near the Peking Duck House, the store you saw with Japanese words, good candy. For go to food stalls, there's one near the Hong Kong Supermarket (churn fun, rice noodles w/ protein) and a bunch of egg waffles, Paris Sandwich (Banh mi), another one is a sponge cake bakery, I'm not sure where it is, but it's near little italy

I looooove Mott Street. ❤️ It seriously does my heart good to see that Aji Ichiban is still there! The first time I ever tasted mango was there, and I LOVE their dried sugared rose petals. I need to find some time to visit from far northwest NJ, as it's been a few years since I've visited the city. Just too expensive to take a train in from here, or bus, or even drive and park... ;~;.

I love the Manhattan Chinatown, because you can still catch a glimpse of the old new York. Little Italy nearby used to be an active immigrant community too. So if you're interested in seeing the old New york, when immigrants swarm the streets of Manhattan, go and take a look.

As a Malaysian, I'm actually quite surprised that someone from Malaysia opened a store in a Chinatown there! Those jerky are quite commonplace here, so I never really thought to compare them to American-style jerky. Glad to see that the shopowners are making a living in foreign places. Also thanks for the honest opinions on the place, if I ever go here, I'd follow your recommendations :3

Hello SD, note to your three part NYC Chinatown food. This one of NYC's could have been about the change in the people. It is the first and it will always be remembered as the first with a cha low - dim sum. The area breakdown is Mott is the oldest from nolita down to Pell. The roast meats over rice was there. East Broadway area was our breath of fresh air for nice dine in restaurants good Cantonese and Szechuan. Grand was groceries and maybe Vietnamese also on Baxter. Long history for me - a mural and the only mural of a time was on Hester. It was meant to. Elle for sampan congee

There is a chopstick shop that sells handmade chopsticks and fans and combs and then there is noodle village which is my go to Chinatown place to eat. I used to recommend Elizabeth street mall but this is back when J & L gameshop was around there. Now there isnt much down there. I also back up his bakery recommendation on mulberry st except they sell lobster tails (also my fav treat) every day now so enjoy. No needs. SF Chinatown is quite boring, comparing to NY Manhattan Chinatown. Besides, he doesn't live in SF; he lives somewhere south and an hour away.

I think he would live more near Oakland Chinatown which I would recommend Gum Wah for their congee.

Manhattan's Chinatown started to lose its edge since the late 1990's. Gentrification on the Lower East Side, which was traditionally an immigrant, working class neighborhood, started to encroach on Chinatown's borders, a trend that continues today. Rising rents convinced newly arrived immigrants to look for cheaper options elsewhere, such as Queens and Brooklyn. Another major blow was the 9/11 attacks. Due to its location, Chinatown became a "frozen zone" as no trucks were allowed south of Canal St, not to mention smoke and dust filled the air. Businesses could not get deliveries or customers for months. Some had to close down or relocate. Think of it. Most of Chinatown's business comes from the weekend suburban families looking to shop groceries and have dim sum. With the growing neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Queens, and the New Jersey suburbs, families became open to other options. Many longtime residents have said the neighborhood hasn't been the same since, and the loss of the Twin Towers became a major setback of Manhattan's Chinatown.

Shu Jiao Fu Zhou Cuisine Restaurant, wohop, lam Zhou pulled noodles, and many more places are delicious and authentic places to eat at. Usually love your videos, but this video doesn't represent what NYC Chinatown has to offer. Many places you visited are not where locals go, for example your trip to Vanessa dumplings. Not trying to be negative but more research should be done. Also the dumpling shop that shut down for health violation was called prosperity and the new store is a different dumpling store opening at that location.

he didnt really tell the full story. so they will have a HUGE wedding dinner, but those dinners are expensive. so the couples dont actually keep a lot. (family from both husband and wife, then extended families such as cousins, 2nd cousins, friends etc) lets say 1 table is around 12 people, each table will be around $400-$600+ (depending on what is served). and there are usually around 15-20+ tables. So that is around $6000-$120000+ just for dinner. then theres the dress, wedding rings, wedding ceremonies etc ssooo yeah go ahead and marry a chinese girl lol

Bro’, you’ve hammered my beloved Chinatown to the ground. I’m Puertorican, born and raised on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and the beauty of living there is the diversity of the people and their cultures. Chinatown is one of my favorite or perhaps THE favorite spot to eat in New York. I agree that there are some restaurants that are better than others but you make it seem like they’re “dangerous” or something by unnecessarily “warning” your subscribers! I will respectfully disagree with you, Chinatown is in fact beautiful with the crowds, the stores and vendors , even the “street meat” is tasty. Like I said: I may be Hispanic but I love and respect my Asian brothers and sisters and love my Chinatown!

So how come mike disses this chinatown by saying "its so crowded. I feel like im in china".....it is as real a chinatown as you can get. Thats the point. Authentic chinese. Duh. Why would you want to go to a fake china?? Its not Disneyworld. Mike is a spoiled snob. I like how crowded it is. Full of chinese people means the food is fresh, cheap and tastes good.
