Another great video as KZfaq’s algorithm helps me catch up with your library of videos, Danny. I thought the hand roll was very generous in its content, more so than the cut roll. They’re marketing their CA Roll wrong. They should charge $6.50 and DISCOUNT $1.50 to have the nori on the outside. Simple and now it’s understandable or at least I’m cheap too and don’t generally care. It’s all about the Surimi and how much is in the roll. Also Kura Revolving Sushi which is in Vegas and now in NJ prides themselves on using real Crab in their CA rolls! They’re very reasonably priced. They also have incredible knife skills and their nigiri is a bit on the thin side. Still pretty good overall.

It appears that because of the rice they use, the roll holds together better with the seaweed on the outside. With the rice on the outside, it looks like it would fall apart which means they would either have to redo it if it did or make it as it is ordered which would slow down the kitchen. The other can be made in advance and stored without falling apart.

I guess that's considered cheap by NYC standards, but charging 6.00 for a California roll then an extra 1.50 to make it a true California roll is a rip off. I can go down to my favorite local sushi joint and get one for 3.50 all day every day. That hand roll looked like a much better value over the roll. Stay safe!

@@dannythemedic Kura Revolving Sushi Bar is superb. Much of their fish is flown in daily from Japan. You're billed by the plate...most plates are $3.20 for 2 pieces. I love Ikura. Most Ikura in Manhattan is $5-$10 for one piece. At Kura, you get two pieces for $3.20. Some items like Toro and Uni are one piece per plate. A robot brings you beverages. They even have a rewards program. Kura is really a fun place to dine at.

ALSO so called "good sushi" means nothing to me. I cannot taste the difference between most fish, whether it is from here or from japan, as long is it is not "bad sushi" like spoiled and with pathogens and etc... To me, more than anything else, sushi is just little sponges for getting soy sauce and wasabi to my mouth. I USED To believe otherwise, I thought I could tell the difference between the fishes and all that, until one day I was challenged to a blindfold test, I was surprised to find that I was unable to tell which is which...
@hoppysport2872

@@dannythemedic Pretty much agree with you. I've been taken out for business dinners to a number of $400+ omakase dinners. I couldn't tell the difference between that and a $25 sushi meal. There's an AYCE sushi restaurant on 81st and Second called Yuka. It's $29.95 and pretty darn tasty. It's a slightly lesser grade of sushi, but really good. However, their a la carte sushi entrees and individual pieces are superlative. Their 8 Piece Tuna/Salmon/Yellowtail dinner with a roll for $22 is as good as it gets.

Gyoza looked from a frozen batch, the takoyaki was missing the bonito flakes, the California Maki would have had to have sesame seeds & tobiko if it was rice outside and the other thing called a California hand roll has no business using imitation crab. Food actually looked pretty good! However, I agree that the brown color was odd since they use balsamic vinegar vs sushi vinegar and it is odd why they would charge extra to have the rice outside? I did not realize that there was much of a difference -hee hee

Another great vlog, question… 95% of Chinese restaurants here in the U.K. only accept cash, do you have a similar issue in the US? Cheers
@dannythemedic
@dannythemedic 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, many here are cash only. I believe it is because cash is easy and the amounts are usually small. Chinese food is traditionally low priced because its for the people, the hard working people... I just ate today at a chinese place, I gave them 22 dollars USD in cash. I am old enough to remember when credit cards first came out, people would use them instead of cash for big purchases but as time went on, now people use it to buy a cup of coffee. I also think that it is a hassle to take credit cards, gotta have an account, gotta beware of fraud, they charge you percentage fee, you gotta do paper work, maintain receipts, figure out how much to give to your servers and etc from charged tips, Cash is just so easy...

@@dannythemedic thanks, that makes sense, every so often in the UK press this comes up and they tend to peddle the narrative that it’s a money laundering scam and courage us to report it, I doubt many people do as the same restaurants are still trading years later.

Cash only is because the profit margin in many small businesses is low and using debit cards or credit cards cost the businesses 2 1\2 to3% for each transaction.
