www.democracynow.org- The battle over charter schools is heating up after New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio blocked three privately run charter schools from using rent-free space inside public schools. The city also announced it will cut $210 million in charter school construction funding and use the money toward universal pre-K and after-school programs. The moves have set off a fierce debate in New York and the country and have even pitted de Blasio against New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, a fellow Democrat. We are joined by former public school teacher Brian Jones and Steve Barr, founder of the Green Dot Public Schools, a charter school network.

At 15:42 he slips up and says "How do we create wealth"...of course his only real concern. All the public funds should go to public schools. No free building rent for charters. Fair education for ALL!

America has a one size fits all school system. My kids struggled in public school. Now in charter school they thrive. The comparisons are drastic. People need choices because the main stream isn't working for all.

The US is a mess in so many ways and multiplying the "choices" won´t do any good. So your charter schools can pick students? And you wonder why they do better on testing? This is ridiculous to debate at all. (At least in teh rest of the globe)

I'm a daughter of two teachers and this train wreck has been happening for so long. As a kid I remember My parent fighting for better schools and now they retire this year and it's not better it worse. I see that side. I do.. but my kids don't fit in a box. Main stream school gets a F. And I feel bad for that. Some kids can make it. ..This problem is so big . It's like trying to not use gas in your car. Education is not taught to be a value. I'm lucky to have my kids at this school. I'm just a working class mom hoping.

It's too bad "defense" contractors are more important than school funding.

Do NOT give charter schools free rent that "B" pays herself $475K a year per charter schools (5) she owns. That is $2.285 Million a year She can pay her own damn rent!
