My goal in this video was to show a specific angle of New York City. But NYC has so many different sides! Whether that be the South Bronx, Jackson Heights, the Hasidic Jewish world, an old school NYC local in Manhattan, etc. If you liked this and want to see completely different stories in the same city check out my full New York City Playlist here that I'll be adding to in the next couple of weeks: bit.ly/2TmThlI

Pretty cool you tried the Pakistani restaurants but also whenever you have the chance try our Bangladeshi restaurants here in New York. You wont be disappointed especially in Jackson Heights, Jamaica, Astoria, Starling Ave in the Bronx, Church and McDonald in Brooklyn and also in Brooklyn Liberty Ave around the East New York/Ozone Park section on the Queens /Brooklyn border.

Jackson heights was once a predominantly Pakistani-American neighborhood, Pakistanis who mostly immigrated in the 60s and 70s lived in Jackson Heights but the Pakistani population in Jackson Heights declined gradually in the 2000's. Now there are mostly new Bengladeshi immigrants live in Jackson heights. Pakistanis who are old immigrants moved elsewhere.

Jackson Heights was an area I visited often and I recall the people were always so kind and welcoming there. (Mostly Hispanics back in the '90's). Like you, I've been all around the world since those days (Irishman, married to a Russian, currently based in Prague), but I have very good memories of being in Queens. Memories made all the fresher by this video. Thank you again. Stay well.

I am just now seeing this video. I was born and raised in Queens and go to Jackson Heights to do my grocery shopping. You went to the places I usually frequent! I appreciate you show different parts of NY besides Manhattan. Love the videos!

My favorite part was when Peter mentioned the Pakistani people in Pakistan would give him food but wouldn’t accept his money. A true testament to the true character of the people of Pakistan. 9:18

Hey Peter, I am Pakistani American and also a New Yorkers. The Jackson Heights area in New York in not a Pakistani area. The majority Jackson Heights resident are from Bangladesh, second comes Indian and third and least amount of people from Pakistan. If you want see pure Pakistani area, that is located in Brooklyn New York, Coney Island Avenue crosses Foster avenue.

Yeah Jackson Heights was traditionally Indian, and now mostly Bangladeshi run businesses and restaurants - I will specifically suggest Haat Bazaar, which is a supermarket/restaurant. Great fish curries and kebabs. Coney Island Avenue strip from Church Avenue to Avenue I/J has a lot of Pakistani restaurants. Kensington in general is great for desi food. Highly recommend Jalsa.

Very nice work you doing introducing the ethnic community to others. You were in Jackson heights which is a big Bangladeshi community along others. If you ever want to do something about Bangladeshi cuisine in nyc please let me know. I am a Bangladeshi living here also a food enthusiast like you are. Looking forward.

The guy is totally right about a more bigger and dedicated Pakistani community in Coney Island but the community in Jackson Heights in my personal opinion is more alive due to its diversity and everything being mingled in together. In Coney Island though as you’re walking down the street, you’ll be in the Pakistani section and then suddenly you’ll be in the Jewish section followed up by the Russian section. Jackson Heights is a mix of all different communities, from the Argentinians to the Pakistanis to the Bangladeshis with a hint of Indians, Colombians and even Afghans all in that neighborhood. Loved the time I had living in Queens.

Now no pakistani lives in jackson heights except very few. Most of the people you met like the one at 7:41 were bengalis

That guy was right. Jackson Heights will give you a general South Asian community feel, but around Coney Island Ave in Brooklyn is only Pakistanis. What's crazy is that right next to the pakistanis over there theres a massive russian and Eastern European community.

It was pretty eye opening that guy was happy to just be in New York and to play guitar. As someone who's grown up in America my whole life it seems we constantly want more and more and that society will make you feel bad for "not being good enough"
