It is a travesty that David Johansen aka Buster Poindexter is NOT in the Rock n Roll Hall of fame with his band the New York Dolls 😞

I agree, but what do you expect from an organization that did not induct the Four Seasons? -- And there are many other examples of the strange decisions of this brotherhood. Considering the omissions and the overly-obvious inclusions, the R&RHoF has pretty much proven itself to be something like a Jackalope ----- Google it. (By the way, the retail store which popularized the Jackalope was WALL DRUG)

So great to see him honored with a documentary, but none other than Martin Scorsese! I'll never forget his show at Park West in Chicago in the 80's. He actually recognized my friend, who had been to many of his shows, and pushed the microphone out in front of him to sing along to Personality crisis.

I recall some years back being in a "hip" "scene" bar, and for a time, the audio background was some Indie stuff like Red House Painters or the like, and I was truly suffering having to listen to it, but didn't know quite why it was making me suffer. Then the background audio changed to the New York Dolls, and I felt so much better. And I knew why. The directness, but also the ebullience of the NY Dolls' music is something to value.

Just like Lou Reed, Chris Stein, Tom Verlaine, Patti Smith, Alan Vega, Johnny Ramone, Michael Gira, and many others, the great David Jo Hansen is a certificated sculptor of New York City's Rock and Roll. This film partly awards a long, successful yet struggling career that had already been awarded with the fans eternal respect and admiration. Prior to my immediate, synchronous adherence to early Punk, at 13, i had already listened to the Dolls on a national FM Rock station (late Summer 76), hearing that they were precursors of said musical turmoils both in NYC and London, so i kind of got confused, having known that they were also claimed as being Glam Glitter jetboy stars. As you move on with time and learn how to understand how NMTB by the Pistols is at least 80 percent NYD sounding, something to be also noticed in excellent peripheral groups like the Cuddly Toys and their ''Guillotine Theatre '' album (rec. in 79, rel. 81), or then with supergroups projected to be teeny stars but revealing their true colours as Glam avant-garde reinventors , as in Japan. They all had a common thread and that was the Dolls reference.

@@nanchanger if you keep on twisting your humour you'll turn pretzel soon. The incredible detail you picked from my comment is the exception confirming the rule. Both bands' debut albums are perfect examples of the art of carving NYC's ennui, creation through controlled desperation (often under smack). These guys were somehow unrequested martyrs of urban sociocultural degradation. Useless yet infectious icons. Time is running but they got the legend.

Sad this these 2 artists have to be on the Egghead Peabrain show. I can imagine the empty headed questions he might have like ; "How did you 2 get started?" . And "How have things changed in the music / film industry past 50 years ?" . If his dim-witted wife-thing was there : she'd be all " How did you put all that make up on? Did somebody help you?" . Lastly ; I'd love to hear this out of their WonderBreaded little mouths : "Martin; Taxi Driver: WHY all the violence?" . Goodness gracious.
