I live in the US, in New York State, but not NYC and I am Nigerian. NYC is quite different from the rest of the country. The culture is quite different too, so it is difficult to use NYC to judge what America is like. I believe whatever you will term as good in the UK, it's available in the US too. You just need to find the city that matches your vibe in America. Weed is not legal across the US. It is legal in many states, right, but every state has it's laws. I know you mentioned that cars are an essential in the US because you saw lots of cars in NYC. But best believe, NYC has some of the lowest car ownership per capita compared to many other cities in America, because other places are more dispersed and the US is BIG. People don't realize that until they get here. It could easily take you a 7hr drive at 70mph (113km/hr) to get to another city in the same state. For a Nigerian context, that is the distance from Owerri to Lagos by road. Also, in America, if you want to avoid ATM fees, use your ATM providers ATM. America is quite casheless too, you just have to visit other places. Card providers usually charge businesses a fee for every transactions. That's the reason small businesses would rather opt for Zelle or other platforms that would not require such fees, and in the worse case pass the cost to the buyer. You'll get used to it. Welcome to America.

I had the same experience while visitng the US from the UK: 1. Their rooms and roads are far bigger 2. Their (old) buidlings have a weird smell 3. Their food is often too salty or overspiced 4. Lots of freedom! 5. Taxes and tipping are ridiculous!

This is 3 years since I moved to Florida , Jacksonville. I’ve had so many cultural shocks 😅. America is large , every state has its own law and regulations. We don’t eat out because the food here is too salty and the sugar is too much for my taste. I cook everything we eat. My city is the biggest in the US by landmass, driving and owning a car is a must. Most public Buildings and apartments here are mostly air conditioned and windows are permanently closed because of gun violence. The capitalism is crazy. Welcome to America Chidera❤

I had to pause this video to drop my comment. I visited US 🇺🇸 in May from Australia. (I covered 4 states: MI, NY, NC, and DC)You see that habit of operating phone and driving, it’s definitely a norm for them. I was so shocked 😳 cos it’s not something I’m used to seeing in Australia. the traffic lights and drivers in NY🚦? Arhhh Don’t even get me started on the salty food. I couldn’t finish their Chick-fil-a and the fish sometime at dinner cos I couldn’t handle the salt. And oh yeah! Some places in NY literally felt like Lagos or Aba in Abia state sef 😂😂. At some point I was confused whether I’m still in the US 😂.

I absolutely agree with the dressing please! People are more fashionable in the UK, the fancy winter coats, the nice colors in the summer, my bosses wear lipstick, love it. Also agree with the food, super sugary and salty, I feel like my uk friends are just more conscious of what they eat and their weight, about half my colleagues are vegetarian and even the uk fast food culture is almost non existent.

I thoroughly enjoyed this video. The salty food is same in Canada, but customer service is great here, they are really polite. Night life is the same with Toronto. I think the price without tax is cause tax % varies per states I assume, cause it does vary per province in Canada. So the total cost changes, some are higher than other.

The tax is a percentage added onto the price. So, if you don’t know the price of the item, you can’t calculate how much tax is due for that particular item and won’t know if you’re being overcharged or not. Where I live, sales tax is 7%. Entertainment tax is 9%. If you walk into a McDonald’s and order your food, you’ll be charged 7% of the price. However, if you go through the drive-thru, you’ll be charged the 9% entertainment tax.

You might as well describe the USA as NYC and the rest of the USA, as NYC is in a world of it's own. USA is very car centric. Most people in NYC do not own nor do they need a car but it would be difficult to function in the rest of the country without a car. Also homes and rooms in NYC are generally smaller than the rest of the country. Americans are taxed upon taxed upon taxed. And NYC is among the highest. Its a hustle and grind concrete jungle kind of living in NYC

The taxes are added on after the purchase because different states and towns have different tax rates. So a company can't just put one price on it's product or service because depending on where you are in the states the after tax price will vary. You lucked out finding stable weather in New York. Depending on the time of year the weather can be unpredictable and extreme. You will see thunderstorms and temperature drops like you never saw in the UK. Lastly. New York City is it's own World. When you leave New York and the Northeast US you will see everything change, from peoples behavior, prices, taxes, culture, food, weather, etc. etc. America is huge. There are four time zones forest, swamps, mountains, deserts, frigid plains and tropical beaches. New York City is just one spoonful of the whole banquet. Lol
