Years back at the start of my wine journey, I thought Finger Lakes and Niagara wines were light and lacked dimension. Was more wowed by bold and round wines. Now I am at the elegance, fresh phase. I will explore more of the NY and Canadian wines.

I love Long Island. My wife and I have made four trips to the North Fork. There are a number of quaint towns and the thin strip of land means you are always close to the ocean. KontokostaI offers beautiful Ocean views. I like that you referenced Paumanok Vineyards. Their Cab Francs are bigger than those of the Finger Lakes. Often more so than the Cab Sauvs of the area. Same is true for the Ohio Grand River Valley, an excellent sub-appellation for this varietal.

Finger Lakes has been an under the radar source of quality Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Bordeaux cultivars and Lemberger(Blaufrankish) for some time now. I didn't know about the other NY state wine regions/AVAs, so thanks for making this video. So far my favorite U.S. Riesling was from the Finger Lakes, I also had a Lemberger from there that was a bit over the hill. But that was probably because it took a long time to get from the States to me here in Taiwan. Unfortunately, the market here is primarily focused on California and Napa, Washington and Oregon wine are starting to appear somewhat more often. But they are still very much a niche market with limited availability. Hopefully some brave wine importing companies will try to bring them into the wine market here. Thanks again for great content presented in clear & fun way. BTW, Madeleine I thought your outfit today was pretty chic; nice wardrobe selection.

Love your videos. Thank you for featuring some wines from the Northeast! You mention French/American hybrids, as they are popular in New York. I'd love to see another video with more information on hybrids. We are a small, family-owned vineyard and winery in central Massachusetts and we feel very strongly that hybrid varieties are the way forward, particularly in our changing climate. It's hard for a Northeast winery to claim they have terroir when they are planting fussy vinifera varieties that may die in the winter or succumb to disease in our humid summers. Hybrids are more adaptable to unpredictable climactic conditions and they offer better pest and disease resistance, not to mention new and exciting flavors and aromas. Anyway, your channel is great. Cheers!

Do you produce Baco Noir? That's another French-American hybrid that grows well in the finger lakes.
@wachusettvineyards1327
@wachusettvineyards1327 Жыл бұрын
@@asowers1 Actually, Baco Noir is not one that we grow. For reds, we have mostly Petite Pearl and Marquette, with smaller plantings of Arandell, Crimson Pearl, and Frontenac. We blend the PP and Marquette into our signature red, which, if you'll forgive my lack of humility, I think is delicious. PP has a nice tannic structure (which has sometimes been a problem for other hybrid reds) and lovely cherry candy flavor and Marquette adds evergreen and exotic spice. For whites, we have Seyval blanc, Aromella, Itasca, Acadie Blanc, and Brianna.

@@wachusettvineyards1327 if I may ask.. what is the residual sugar (g/L) of your reds?
@wachusettvineyards1327
@wachusettvineyards1327 Жыл бұрын
@@knowbody4903 Hi there - we ferment all our reds to complete dryness, as measured by specific gravity less than 1.000. That being said, many wines considered "dry" still have trace amounts of unfermentable sugar, so it's rare to find a wine that is truly 0.00 g/L. But for all intents and purposes, our reds are considered dry. Cheers.

@@Winefolly I like complex wines and got to try many, but I found the adjectives to be silly. When people go on and on, using 100 adjectives and naming inorganic flavors, I roll my eyes. They say they get a hint of pencil lead, and I say I got an earful of bullshit. I have to say that the best wine I tried was a 30yo Sauterne. There's really only one adjective needed-- it tasted like gold. I also liked aged Barolos and rieslings. Fyi, I worked at a large store in Indianapolis called Kahn's Fine Wines for 3 years.
