Today we went out to NYC’s Times Square to see if Americans and people from around the world are able to guess the meanings of these special Malaysian English words! Had no idea THIS would be their reaction!!!

I'm triggered with that couple kept looking negatively at Malaysian English and saying " it's not English " and boring. Have they never heard about the term 'slang' before? Every country has it. 🙄

Disclaimer : These are not actually Malaysian English. Malaysian English follows the actual standard form of English like everybody uses. Those meaning only applicable when you speak colloquial speech with the natives and not in official Malaysian English. For example, action would still means 'doing something' instead of 'showing off' when used in actual settings. But when used in colloquial speech, then yes, it means 'showing off'.

B: 你每一次都爽约,约你出来喝茶聊天,你又不出门,现在才指责我? A: 不好意思啦,之前和女神约会,是兄弟的话就多多包涵吧。 B: 真的吗?约会如何?让我瞧一眼,看看长得美不美。 A: 一般啦,比起外表我们更注重有内涵的女生,因为长得美的女生我都没机会约。 (当你遇到我们自由切换马来西亚/中国的腔调时,别太惊讶,因为我们习惯了。) English version: (When your friend is Malaysian) A: Eh,eh,eh. This restaurant looks damn nice leh, go there makan mou? B: Onz lah, when go har? A: Tonight lor, cannot wait liao, I wait long long time already. B: Cannot eh, my girlfriend jio me makan liao. A: Wah, like that also can ah, just now ok now tak boleh, so many pattern one ah? B: Aiya, next time I treat you lor. A: Okok, bye lah. (When your friend comes from western country) A: Bro, this restaurant looks so nice, let's having our dinner there. B: I am okay with that, when we go there? A: I can't wait for a long time, how about tonight? B: I think I can't make it. I'm going out with my girlfriend tonight. A: Why you always like that? You just make a promise to me, but now you reject me with a lot of excuses? B: Sorry about that, I will pay your bill next time. A: Nah, it's okay, see you next time. Most of these words are actually slang words. For the record, a significant population in Malaysia actually speak and use grammatically-correct English. We just have a way of how we use colloquial English, or we call it "Manglish" (yes it gets mangled up and we love it that way) 😂
