hi Eunice! pretty late to this video but I hope you see this. at 10:25 you mentioned to take stats. i'm currently in my second to last semester of pre-med, and stats is offered as an elective for my last semester. why did you recommend taking stats? i've never considered taking it so i'd love to know more!
@eunjint
@eunjint 4 ай бұрын
Hiya! Thanks for your comment jazmine :) Oh does that mean you’ve already picked another elective paper for your 2nd sem? I recommend taking stats in high school because it’s a good one to help you do well in that stats elective paper. Also, it’ll help with the HEAL192 paper. Calculus just does not add any value to medicine or pre medicine. However, I’ve never taken stats until premed and I still did well but I wished I took stats in high school hence the advice 😊

Hii...can you please tell me if we need SAT score to get into med school and can you make a whole video about the postgraduate entrance to medical school. Thank you so much, your video helps a lot. Love you ❤️.
@eunjint
@eunjint Жыл бұрын
Hello Klayar, according to the Otago uni website for university entrance, it says “To be eligible for admission if you have completed the USA High School Diploma in either the United States or at an international secondary school you must: - be awarded the High School Diploma, and - achieve a minimum SAT score of 1190 (or 1650 if the SAT was taken before March 2016), or an equivalent ACT composite score. - You must also meet the criteria for Language requirements. **note that you have to do first year of health sciences via university entrance before you can apply for med school in your second year** Thanks for your support I’m glad it’s helpful!! I’ll be sure to add that to my list of videos to make :)

Hi! I was just wondering why it would be better to take stats instead of calc in highschool and if it would be ok it I just took calc? Thank you so much for this video!
@eunjint
@eunjint 11 ай бұрын
hello! It's better to do stats in my opinion because there's a paper called HEAL192 that's heavy stats based. You also have the opportunity to take an 8th paper (I did) and took STATS in uni. It's really easy to get an A in that paper and that can help boost your overall grade!
@eunjint

And in medicine in general, Stats is more helpful, calculus has not AT ALL been used in my medicine career thus far hhaha. I took calc in year 13 too. If I could choose again, I would go for stats

Hii, I have a question, if I fail a subject, I have to repeat the subject before going to second semester or I revalid it during the second semester?
@eunjint
@eunjint Жыл бұрын
In health science, you only need to take 7 papers for the whole year. But most people take 8 papers (4 in sem 1 and 4 in sem 2) because in case they don’t do well in one paper in sem 1 they can use the sem 2 paper to bump up their grades.
@eunjint
@eunjint Жыл бұрын
Though, Caro I’m not so sure about failing…. My thinking is that if you fail one paper, regardless of whether or not you take an 8th paper, you won’t be able to get into medical school. This isn’t official information! You’ll have to email the school to find out more. The average academic score to get into Otago nowadays is very competitive. At least an average of A, UMAT is another story. But I hope you get what I mean, don’t fail, it’s hard to get into med school if you do.

I have a lot of friends who went and did summer school papers before health science started, it’s a course that both uni provide during summer to help prepare for health science. If you’re not confident in certain papers, eg Physics or Chemistry, they help you strengthen your knowledge in these specifically for health sciences. My friends who did this course all found it really helpful and they did quite well and got onto the professional courses they wanted to! :) Let me know if I can help with other questions. You can do this!

Hey , I’m really worried about this so I hope u can answer this question . So is it really hard to pass the hsfy first year and pass to study medicine and I got 94% when I graduated from high school , thanks
@eunjint
@eunjint 8 ай бұрын
Hello! I think graduating from high school with A+ is something that is really really beneficial to you heading into hsfy. But as most people would agree, health sci first year is ~20-30x the AMOUNT of content compared to high school to learn. It's not necessarily hard. The key to doing really well is thus to be on top of all your studies throughout the year. If you can use the effort to get 94% in high school consistently throughout the year, i don't think you'll have to worry too much! I would also start doing UCAT practice papers now if you're starting HSFY next year :) Thats a tip i wished people would've told me earlier. Grades are important but they count for 2/3 of the score. UCAT is 1/3 which is A BIG proportion that you cant just get good at in a short duration, its very different from the way we've been taught in school. Let me know if this helps, if not, I'm happy to clarify anything. Give me a message on Instagram @eunicechou.co❤

Hi SB! Nice to meet you. That's awesome! I have a few nursing colleagues who went through med school with me and are doctors now. You would be considered under "alternative" category pathway for entry to medical school. Here is some info about it on the otago page. Read the Alternative area. It's recommended that you have worked as a nurse for at least 5 years (preferrably 2 years in nz). www.otago.ac.nz/healthsciences/students/professional/medicine#alternative I was thinking about making a video about this too I'll let you know when that comes out :)
