Constable Hurn is back from his holiday and out on the road again. A stolen car some fake plates and a serious assault make for a busy few days, so jump in and ride along.

Hey, I got a question, is a traffic cop a general duties cop + traffic cop or is each role specialised to the point that a traffic cop does not have the training to do the general duties stuff and the general duties cop does not have the training to do the traffic cop work? Is a probationary constable general duties? Random questions I know, but I am sure I've seen the yellow and orange cars doing each others work.

Hey Johnny! Do you happen to know much in regard to pay scale for organised crime unit, dog handler and detective first year positions?
@newzealandpolice5 жыл бұрын
I actually don't, everyone does two years on the front line before specializing. Detective takes a good few years to get to, dog handlers and people in the organised crime units are often highly experienced cops before joining those teams as well so it's hard to say what you'd get paid. - Constable Hurn.

I know they say that there's no height requirement but i'm 4 ft 9 😂 What are the chances of me passing the PCT and also tips on dealing with larger males on the job? Ps: So great to have you back!
@newzealandpolice5 жыл бұрын
Ok, this is gonna be an essay because I passionately believe if you've got the right mentality nothing should stop you. To begin with I'd say passing the PCT is 100% about training and the wall is all about technique, I've certainly seen shorter women manage it. If it's something you're worried about the PT trainers will help you and give you time to practice. On the other question, part of the job is physical but it's not a majority. I've been in quite a number of physical confrontations and I'm not larger than most offenders. I've relied on careful observation, moving fast, using the tools on my belt and communicating with my team. Technique helps here and doing something like Jiu Jitsu on the side will boost your skill and confidence. That said, communication is the most powerful tool, good communication can save the fight from even taking place. Overall I'd say being reliable, motivated and mentally resilient is more important and more helpful than just being big, if you've got that those things then don't worry about size. Hope that helps. - Constable Hurn.

@@newzealandpolice Nice road trip! I sold my much loved and cared for MT-03 and within about a month the new owner had written it off :(. I recommend the little GP style Akrapovic slip-on can for the MT-03. Makes it sound really good, pops and crackles when you downshift, but it's still well under the legal 100 dB limit. Safer when you're in traffic too; less likely to have someone right next to you change lanes into you, or over you.
