Down the road is McKays Crossing where there was a big US Matine's training camp in WW2. Ten US Navy sailors lost their lives, in 1943 at the beach during a landing exercise during bad weather.. Now Queen Elisabeth11 Par and memorial there.

Kapiti has grown from a beachy bach town to a metropolis in 50 years, Curls. If you want a stunning, peaceful beach - Pukerua Bay! Or even south of Paraparaumu, Raumati Beach, Plimmerton, or north to Waikanae - it's all stunning! We don't know how lucky we are!! ❤👌

Didn't realise how nice that part of the country is, too many people just drive through it. For something completely different you should visit Canterburys alpine villages, especially in winter. Hanmer Springs, Castle hill, Methven, Tekapo, Mt Cook... People often skip Canterbury, and just go to the famous spots like Queenstown, Wanaka, and Milford Sound, despite it being just as nice, not that that being quiet is a bad thing though.

Places like Kapiti we say "for the newly wed, or nearly dead" - my town (Whanganui) was like that. If you wanna see a Truly epic New Zealand beach, you've got to get up to the coromandel and to Hot Water beach.

By the way the thing they were building at around 3:00 is a block of town houses and they are replacing some pipes from under the road or something, it’s caused a lot of traffic problems and it is super annoying

Raglan and Russel are two beach towns I can highly recommend. If you ever found your way up to Hamilton ( We live in Putaruru, blue spring walk is Fkn nice here btw ) we'd be more than happy to pick you up and drive you over the divvy to Raglan for a day trip.

My brother lives there, so spent a lot of time in Paraparaumu. Surprised you didn’t check out Coastlands - you love a good mall 😂. There’s a giant statue of the Virgin Mary on the hill overlooking the town which I can remember from back in the 70s. The building site by the train station is a new transport hub, apparently.

Most beach towns in New Zealand are really amazing and the locals are very welcoming, don’t think we have any beach towns like the old days where it was just batch and a local dairy, pub and maybe a servo, but I’m planing on finding out when I do my own travels along our beautiful coasts, glad you enjoyed your time Curls, and yes summer our beaches are all crazy, the loud cars, we’re probably all like the red Nissan skyline 🖤🙏
@PaulG.x11 ай бұрын
You don't find them close to large cities ,but along the more remote stretches of coastline ,they still exist. The service station will be there ,but will probably have been abandoned long ago when the oil company forced its closure

We have lived all over NZ moving a lot with husbands work - Paraparaumu (Param to the locals) is the most beautiful, relaxed and warm place out of all the places we've been. Me too, although I did go to Nelson in 2019 for 3 months which was magic. One has to have grown up in NZ to fully 'get' a lot of NZ quirks and expressions AND mind-set. You put a bunch of kiwis in a room together overseas and they all 'get' each other. The subtle humour we all share is definitely a big part of it.

Some ten years ago when I drove up from Wellington to Auckland, right pass Palmerston North and I took the wrong turn, so instead of SH1 I have gone into the mountains and in the middle of literally no where. Phone got no signal and I got no idea where I was, so I kept on up the tinny road, saw a bloke on his quad bike with a few dying sheep, we both stopped for a bit of a chat as the road was so narrow and it was an intersection. "Down the road would be Palmerston North and God know it where it goes up the road" He told me, the young lad had only been to place 10 miles up and 10 miles down the road, nowhere else. I assume it was not far from the place of your video and somehow my memory popped up. Bless that young man and hope he reached Wellington by far.
