I commuted thru Newark Penn Station back then. Absolute hell hole. You wouldn’t dare step outside the station. FF 20 years & it was still bad. My dad worked at the Rutgers Law School campus & started feeling lousy. He knew enough to get home & go to a hospital than to go to one in Newark.

I went to Newark in 2020 with my cousin to visit his friends. Place is off the hook. One of those places where you can feel the danger in the air. Plus I almost got my car stolen in a near armed robbery.

Of course he did. I grew there back then. The Jews, Italians & Sicilians were as corrupt as they came. Scuudder Homes, aka Prince St. projects were god awful from the outside but fairly decent once within. Half the city was revived when they were demolished as well as all the other high-rise apartment bldgs, less Ivy Hill, which borders Seton Hall University, still stands.

This WAS TOTALLY mafia related. An Italian suit store! You think some black guys were crossing town to break in to steal clothes they’d have to again cross town to sell?

No he didn't. When you get muscled, the perpetrators make themselves known and come back weekly for payments. If he got muscled and made the payoffs, the break-ins would have stopped
