My apologies for the broken radio traffic. We were operating in an area with poor Ohio MARCS coverage.
Please read this information. There is a lot of information contained here that will most likely answer your questions.
On February 22, 2022 at approximately 1525 hours Madison Township F.D. was dispatched to 11873 Bolen Road for a camper on fire next to a garage. Madison F.D. responded in Rescue-101 with 2 firefighters that were on duty. Assuming that this could escalate to a structure fire I went on the air and headed that way on a non-emergency.
Rescue-101 arrived on scene and reported a camper on fire and a garage fire and requested the run be upgraded to a working structure fire.
The upgrade to a working structure fire assignment included:
Madison Engine-102 (volunteer)
Madison Tanker-101 (volunteer)
Madison Medic-101 (volunteer)
Madison Medic-102 (volunteer)
Hanover Engine-802 (paid staff of 2)
Hanover Tanker-802 (volunteer)
Heath Engine-52 (paid staff of 2)
Granville Tanker-201 (paid staff of 2)
Granville Chief-200 (paid staff of 1)
Newark Rescue-1 (paid staff of 3)
Newark Ladder-3 (paid staff of 3)
Newark Engine-5 (paid staff of 3)
Licking Twp. Fire Co. (volunteer)
Frazeysburg Tanker-405 ?
MaryAnn Engine-691 (volunteer) Paid crew was just clearing from an EMS run and responded
MaryAnn Engine-692 (volunteer)
Newark Twp. Engine-541 (paid staff of 3)
West Licking Support-401 (volunteer)
The fire was quickly contained using three 1.75” attack lines and water supplied by tankers (non-hydranted area). One dog that was inside the camper at the time of the fire died. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
This video was recorded with a Motorola Z Force Droid cell phone, which limits the length of each video to about 30 minutes.

With all-volunteer (or mostly-volunteer) departments on day-time calls it's not uncommon to have to pull double duty. Sometimes it even means doing things that you'd really rather not do, or that the NFPA would not technically approve of. I've driven an engine on a structure fire call before, with only a 2 man crew (that is, 1 besides me) and we arrived on scene, the other guy stretched a 1-3/4" line while I was getting the pump in gear and charging the line, then I went and backed him up on the line (exterior attack only in this case). This was a rural area with our closest mutual aid units 6-8 miles away, so you just have to do what you can sometimes.

The fire fighter I guess he is the Engineer of Rescue 101 was impressive. Pulling the hand lines to get them ready for incoming fire fighters and then hand jacking the supply line back. As a retired Captain/Safety Officer I always like to see hustle and fire fighters like this guy get stuff ready. Good job Chief enjoy your videos a lot.

Incredible job by the engineer on that first engine. Got two lines charged immediately and stretched a supply line to a hydrant all on his own. Worked with a sense of urgency that too often seems to be lacking.

And maybe not as big a thing but changing air bottles to keep the other firefighters in the fight without tying up someone else to do that. Definitely has that drive, sense of urgency, mentioned.

Can see he still has the heart of the fire fighter and not the drive of a desk personal.... Not saying desk personal is bad, as they are needed... Just nice to see even in command he is willing to lend a hand with the work.

From a volunteer dept, everyone with their jobs forgets how important everyone else's is. That guy wasn't bitching and doing the jobs of a couple of people. Even the Chief came in and started helping. Awesome fucking team work! No shitty 'you didn't do this', 'you didn't do that'. No false praise either. It's a job, just get in and get it done. Good job!

Very good job at assessing the Call, and getting the water on the fire Chief. Also kudos to you for not forgetting to do the always Crucial 360 Scene Size Up to determine exactly what was burning, and getting the Crews where they were needed most. Lastly, your decision to go into a defensive attack on the garage and barn was a great move. No need of risking lives of your Firefighters if there is no one inside.

I served thirty years on my town's call department, eight of those as chief. I've seen well-executed operations, and some not so good. I enjoy watching your department at work. Operations and command always seem to be spot on. You obviously have a great training program.

Thank you once again for posting this video. My son (he’s a volunteer firefighter with our county fire service) and I watch these videos and discuss them throughout. He is working his way through his training-currently Firefighter 2, Fire Safety Educator, just started Fire Investigator and is working on his Captain training. My grandson is a firefighter in our town. I made him aware of your vids and he is using them to educate himself. We have some differences in our way of fighting fire, but basics are the same. I try to get my guys to throw a Hebert hose clamp on the LDH also. Then the supply engine or tanker or hydrant can charge the line anytime. Regardless if the hookup has been completed at the attack engine.

Thanks, Chief Decker. No need to apologize. The radio has been the weakest link in fireground operations forever. Thank you, for sharing your videos. They are a great training tool. You and your department do a great job. Your 360 scene size ups are precise and to the point. I tell my guys don't write a novel and stay calm and to the point. Be safe.

Just to add to the similar comments, I've used the videos as a teaching aid not so much in specific firefighting techniques but in effective fireground communications in real situations, not simulated exercises. Thanks for providing a valuable tool.

Smokey Fire for sure . Around the 11 min mark you could see the way the smoke and the color of that smoke was pushing from under the garage door . I thought for sure it was going to flash any second . I’m honestly not sure why it didn’t . Excellent job Chief . Stay safe gentlemen

Strong work Chief, always go with your get feeling! The Engineer on Rescue 101 was everywhere, really kept the interior attack going and was right in the zone, no tunnel vision! Give that man a steak! Question - Rescue 101, I'm assuming its ran like a rescue engine? The Rescue Engine concept here in Virginia is quite popular, especially with the volunteer departments. Excellent video!

I love watching your videos. Very educational. I’ve grown up around fire departments. From my great grandfather being chief to my grandfather, aunt, uncle, and father all volunteer. I live very rural and with all volunteer departments around me and after watching my neighbors barn catching fire, 4 departments were called out and it taking 45 minutes for the first truck to arrive I’m pushing my county to put in a rural volunteer fire department. Will it happen? Prolly not but I’m pushing for it. Anyway thanks for posting these videos! Like I said interesting and educational

two 1st for me. I've never seen Chief Decker responding without siren in a video. I've now seen two David Decker vids in a row within the 1st hour. For me, because of no internet/cell at home, is totally amazing 😊 Stay safe Chief, a non fireman who always wanted to be one. Edit, once you turn the siren on, that's some beautiful scenery. I'm going to have to watch this twice, I see.

@@commandvisionfire Thanks Chief, I caught that, just had to comment. Growing up in Fort Wayne Indiana, as a teen ager, I worked maintenance at a Holiday Inn. Was a helper for two Ft. Wayne fireman. the the H.I. was their side job. One guy I had no use for, he felt the same I believe, Charlie, how ever, was my hero. He told me one time "Go to college, or you end up like me" Wrong thing to say to me. To this day, more than 50 years later, he is still my hero. Never did go to college. Couldn't be a fireman. Health in general. Eyes in particular. Every thing I do know about firefighting I've mostly learned from you. Charlie taught me how to work. My dad once commented "I guess I need to PAY Holiday Inn, for teaching you how to work"

Your engine operator did a fantastic job all the way around. It’s a eyes on decision, but the exposure side with two unburned vehicles and a structure might be the priority and pulling that hand line off the RV to the Alpha side. It appeared once they accessed the garage door it was a fairly quick knock. Great job by all.

One thing in particular that caught My eye, was at around 16:50 when you went to get the rotary saw (K12 I'd guess?), and get it started for the crew. One sign of an effective leader (at least in My opinion) is one who jumps in, and helps where/when needed. Was glad to see that :) (though, not shocked lol)
