How is no one talking about the man who goes because he’s concerned about his own drinking!!! How strong is he to face a possible growing addiction well done!!,
@2eleven48
@2eleven48 3 жыл бұрын
During the very difficult time of my mother's descent into Alzheimer's, and her subsequent death three years ago, I was hitting the bottle to the extent that I twice visited my GP surgery to express my concern and perhaps referral to an alcohol addiction centre. The first doctor (male) seemed to find the situation amusing and told me I should see how far worse other people were who came to him. He did offer some literature, but was really quite dismissive about the effectiveness of the places I could go, as well as implying I was just being a big girl's blouse. The second time, I saw another GP (female) who was far more engaged and sympathetic, pointing out that alcohol and the fluoxetine I daily take conflicted with the other. She too gave me some local addresses of voluntary centres which might help. Neither suggested I come back at some point as a follow-up. All I am saying is that it took courage for me to visit a GP about this matter, and that their responses were interesting in how they approached it. And, yes, I still drink. Robert, UK.

One of them I had when I was only about 20 days old. And the hospital kept trying to turn Mum away and dismiss her. I was having difficulty breathing and Mum had to kick up a fuss just to get them to actually see me. Plus, I would have breath holding spells all the time too.

I have multiple spinal problems and other injuries and illnesses that require 24 hour medication. My Pain Specialist has been a Godsend. They ablated the nerves in my lower back and I was able to reduce my medication. Pain is a complex issue that needs a multi-disciplinary team of GP’s, specialists, physical therapy and sometimes even psychologists/psychiatrists. Huge doses of opiates can be deadly. I know this. My own daughter died of an overdose at only 26. If this man feels he is addicted (true addiction seldom occurs when taking only the minimal medication required to control pain and using other modalities) then I would get him to a pain specialist ASAP. He needs help on many levels if he is to lead a normal life. Maybe he has already tried those things. I hope he gets better. Those of us living with daily chronic pain have no desire to see other suffer.

I have multiple chronic conditions and I am in constant pain. I can barely move most days and I am only 18. I have been referred to the pain team but we have been on the list for a year at least. Sometimes it’s my knees, my back, my shoulders, stomach. I have seizures when I am in extreme pain and they had to give me morphine in hospital to settle my stomach pains. Dads are parents too. They can take their children to the doctor just as easily as mum.

@PRED4TOR85 - so what was your point exactly. Are you an anti-vaxer conspiracy theorist? So, as others have said, babies aren’t routinely vaccinated until 8 weeks. So what is your reply?

They've had Hep B and vitamin K shots, so 2. Bub could just have a little nasal cold

@@OddlyElly Hep B is given at 8 weeks in the UK and Vitamin K is, well, a vitamin and therefore not a vaccine. The only vaccine they may have had if in a high risk group is BCG.
