After much anticipation on Wednesday the fresh fleet of 5 new trucks hit the roads of Newcastle done up the with the sky blue Cleanaway colour. It definitely a culture shock to see something other then the regular Solo trucks picking up yellow tops in Newy.
Cleanaway has rolled out 5 brand new trucks and 2 spares sourced from other contracts. The new trucks are numbered SL01718-22. These are new Gen6 29m Buchers fitted on a Dennis Chassis. Majority of drivers are newbies to the industry resulting in slower pick ups therefore delayed or missed collections.
Here we see an Ex Solo driver (who was already at the company before the contract change) smashing out his area of Waratah on Thursday. He says the grabs are quite delayed hence why so maybe bins where pinch or incorrectly grabbed. I assume that will loosen up over time.
Got plenty of years with these trucks now so won't be in any rush to upload a lot of it.

Well done for showing one of these in pristine condition, always makes a truck enjoyable to watch, even with how prevalent and familiar this make/model is. Not overly common for domestic trucks to just be done up in the company blue and logo, I wonder if this is just a temporary display and there is some specific body livery in the pipeline. Interesting to see another generational change in Newcastle... Thiess to Solo to Cleanaway, Hino to Iveco to Dennis, MkIII to Rico to Gen6, only the bin lifter style has remained much the same throughout! Anyway I think I've seen enough footage of this new recycling contract now, I'll wait for what's next in 10 years time haha =D

I wasn't to thrilled over the fact that Solo would no longer be doing pick ups In my local joint however over the past month its begun to grow on me and I have grown to like them more and more. Council cannot seem to make up there mind over what contactor they prefer more. They are not happy with Cleanaway's preformance currently and are even looking into doing yellow bin pick up themselves. However, I do not see that happening anytime soon. Don't worry I won't flog this current contract and I hope no one else decides to either. We have/had a few neat spares in the first weeks so expect a few videos of them in the coming months :D

Arh so Cleanaway now have the Newcastle recycling contract! So council still does garbage, organics and cleanups from what i see. Good looking new Dennis Buchers i have to say.

um akshully the colour is called "cleanaway blue". Most Buchers have a slight delay between the joystick inputs and actual movements and take some getting used to if you have come from other trucks, especially SPAKs.

Good for a change, something a little different, I'm quite a fan of these Elite 6's They run pretty nice, keen to see the spares, I think I was told 772, the Ex CCC is working up there now, if so Would be keen to see that in action. Keep 'em Coming.

Spot on dude. We’ve got SL00772 and had SL00947 (from Narrabri). Both have decided to stop working. Apparently there is a replacement coming in soon so who knows what that is

Ive been waiting for a video from u. I couldn't wait to see what these new trucks looked like. Great vid mate, cant wait to see more vids. Is there any new trucks in the fleet that aren't Dennis's.

I was excited for the new contract and while it's sad to see Solo go, it is good to see a new company coming in nice and fresh. I must be honest, I don't like the Dennis/Bucher combination but in suburban areas like where this truck is, it works well and I assume the drivers don't mind them. I am keen to see what spares they have! Well done on finding one of the new trucks and I hope to see more!

Same with me. Solo was good but after time your ready for a change. I personally don’t mind these trucks however the drivers say otherwise. They had 2 spares but both decided to Cark themselves in the recent days.

@@GP500 Yeah, the drivers would hate those trucks especially if they’d been in Ivecos or Spaks. I’m not surprised the spares have buggered themselves. Hopefully some time soon you get something other than a new unit.

Great video mate! I've been keen to see a video of these new trucks. Defo gonna be a bit strange to see some big blue Dennis' running around instead of old big green Acco's. Still find it a shame that Solo lost that contract, but defo like the new contract as they're using Buchers.

Solo was greeted whilst it lasted. A new era has begun! Definitely would of preferred some Spaks on fulltime runs but Buchers suit the terrain around here a lot more.

honest thoughts: i like it, i like it a lot. there seems to be this culture of hating on cleanaway before a contracts even started but i like this. i like the cabs and these things sound great with the volvo d8k engines (saves costs for cleanaway because of technical specs of it), good arm speed. gotta break the culture of hating a truck or company because they are doing whats best for them. good luck to the newbies, missed collections will be a thing going forward from what ive heard due to the transport industry in general struggling heavily. top stuff

I personally didn’t have anything against cleanaway in the lead up however was concerned how they would run things as I was hearing rumours they didn’t have enough drivers a week out from the contract.

⁠@@GP500thats the transport industry tho, driver shortages everywhere. not well paying, undesirable line of work, poor conditions. thats why id rather get on the coaches at some point so then im driving a well maintained, smooth unit, plus more desirable area of transport

@@yeahno8969 i mean, they do hate cleanaway for a reason, my bin was collected in Saturday due to driver shortages. Personally the dennises aren't that bad but the Volvo's are shit.. I think JJs and Solo are the best options.

Nice one mate, besides being Dennis's (instead of Iveco's, I think due to location, Iveco and Volvo are really the only viable option), these configs are almost the same as the one Cleanaway contract down here in Tassie, same default signage and everything which I was surprised about for a council area like this in NSW.

Cheers matey, I would of personally preferred Accos however cleanaway doesn’t have much of a history putting Accos on Bucher bodies (only doing so in Palmerston NT & the 2 spares in Sydney). I do know Sorrel down there has similar trucks but on a Stralis Chasis. I believed you filmed it?

@@GP500 Clarence city council which is our only Cleanaway contract at the moment do have SL290s on Stralis chassis, and yes I have filmed them before and plan to do so again. They also a Dennis Spak Series 3 from NSW and Acco Spak Series 2 from QLD.
