The basics of how to replace the cab mounts on your Ford F-250 or F-350, and what to avoid.
Against my recommendations, The owner of the vehicle wanted to go with OEM Ford mounts. I highly recommend against using these because they will fail again in the same short order as the old ones.

Thanks so much for the video. You make it look much easier than what I am experiencing. I have a 2011 F250 Quad Cab. I heated the bolts to deal with the locktite, but they were still extremely difficult to take off. The bushing behind the front seat still had a lot of material left and started to catch on fire after 30 seconds of heating and then felt like the nut was spinning. It was hanging up on something and not coming out. I tapped it with a screw driver from inside the cab and it popped right out but the bushing isn't coming apart. There is less metal to pry on than the other three. I'm still working on the front one on the passenger side. With all that said, I still found your video helpful.

Just changed mine today. I bought the S&B mounts. Seemed to have the best reviews and I like the lifetime warranty. I sprayed all the mounts with PB Blaster about a week and a half before I changed them. Not sure if it made a difference or not. I heated most of the bolts with a torch for 1 min...they all came out easily. Hell, they were so easy, I tried a few without heat and they came out. Prying the OEM ones off wasn't too bad. The only ones that were a pain were the middle ones that are actually made of rubber (not with birthday cake like the others). I removed the driver's side bolts first and then loosened the passenger side bolts before I lifted the driver's side. Then repeated that on the passenger side. TIP, when you pry on the middle ones...rip off the rubber boot on the bottom part so you can get a pry bar on actual metal instead of the boot. My prybar kept slipping off until I removed some of the rubber. I used about an 18" 2x4 and a 3 Ton jack to raise the cab. I put the 2x4 about 8" away from the middle mount (in between the 2nd and 3rd mounts, starting from the front) and it raised the entire cab high enough to get all of the mounts out. You may have to give it one or two more pumps to get the front mounts out by the radiator. Installed the new mounts and then torqued them down to 76lbs. I'll drive it tomorrow and tell you what I think of the S&B mounts!

2008 and both of my front mounts spun the top nuts out despite my being patient with a torch. They both freed up initially but spun out a few rotations later (breaker bar). I removed the headlights which gave limited access but nothing I could jam or wedge in there was enough to hold the nut. I resorted to reaching in with a mig welder and tacking up the one side I could reach. That worked. Good luck

2008 F-250 SuperCab/Lariat- Mileage 124,450 . I had one Bolt Cage break free at front left underneath Radiator after following all precautions and not using an Impact and only a Breaker Bar. I left that one the way it was and will sick a trained Mechanic on it at some point. I had heard about squeaking on the DayStar replacements and applied White Teflon Grease at all Metal contact points on the OEM Bell that meets the Cab and the bottom piece. Make absolutely NO MISTAKE this job is a PAIN IN THE ASS ! The Bolts are very difficult to remove and replace. Do yourself a huge favor and put a Torch on every Bolt for at least a minute possibly longer before unthreading because you'll probably never unloosen them because of the Blue Lock Tight and for Christ's sake keep a Fire Extinguisher close by . Bolting them back in is a LITTLE easier but still a major pain in the ass ! Count on a minimum of 8 hours of labor if your attempting this project solo I don't care who say's differently. I have any and ALL the tools necessary to do this job except a Lift. The hard work paid off and is a completely different Truck. Even the front Cab Mount that the Nut Cage broke didn't make a sound and rides and handles 100% better. The moral to this story. USE TEFLON GREASE and don't listen to someone's inflated Ego about how fast they did the Job ! Regards , Show less

Hey buddy I have a question for ya. How is the ride now compared to the factory bushings? What I mean do these aftermarket bushings ride as smooth as the factory ones when they were new? Why I'm asking is because I was told that they are made from stiffer material so the ride is a little ruff. Do you feel a big difference compared to the factory bushings?

Lord! This is a P.I.A. Looks pretty simple and easy to do. Simple is true, easy not so much. Can’t say that heat seemed to help much. Soakings with PB Blaster did. Plan on using a 1/2 “ drive LONG breaker bar and a whole bunch of effort. Those caged nuts are p.o.s.. I had two spin. Went inside through holes in the floor. 22mm nut size. Well that worked out for one of them, totally rounded the head #2 passenger side. Probably the result of using 12 point socket.(. Hint: use a hex socket, 15 mm) Bolt extractor further rounded it. Now I am preparing to cut the “ head” off of the bolt and then reach into the hole in the floorboard to cut the cage of the nut enough to pry it out of the way and then lift the nut/ bolt stem out from inside.. Then I will put the nut in a vice to work out the stem. Just really glad that this only happened on one of the six bolts on my truck. I have already ordered all new bolts. In retrospect: (1) Get out the 1/2” drive tools, as you can easily break the 3/8”. I trashed three ratchet handles. (2). Go ahead and pull back the carpet, open up the rubber plugs in the floor pan and throughly apply liquid wrench or whatever to the nuts and bolts. At least you’re ready should a nut spin. (3). Be patient and apply it several times, and give it time to work. I feel like this really makes a difference, as my front ones were the easiest of all due to my spraying the exposed nuts under the hood at the start. Laziness helped the other ones teach me a lesson. Once the bolts are out the hard part is over.

Thanks for the informative video, well done. Just replaced mine on my 2012 6.7. I went with the Ford replacement mounts. I got 6 sets for $413 thru our fleet shop at work. They came with new upper and lower cups. I have a 6" lift on 35 mud tires and it made a huge difference in ride quality. I read too many reviews of the aftermarket mounts with harsher ride, squeaking and clunking due to the terrible fitment issues. I wasn't about to put in a part with a huge gap that DOES NOT FIT. Also, why put in a hard poly mount, it would be the same as having a bad stock one as far as ride. I replaced 6 of them as the 2 are rubber and were fine. 2 hours time in my driveway with a friend and using a jack. I was surprised how easy it went. I have a clean Florida truck. I followed your procedure except for using a jack I loosened one side up and did the other side.

+Miguel Angel Thanks for the comment! You should be able to get it done in under a day as long as the upper and lower mounts are not rusted together. The two front mounts below the radiator are the most prone to rusting, but I've never encountered any that could not be handled with a large crowbar. If you think they're gonna be trouble, soak them heavily with PB Blaster. Good luck!

Great video. Looked so easy even a Simpleton like me thought he could do it. 2009 F-350 diesel 2wd long bed. Got some bushings, bought a torch, sprang for a new jack, had tools. Got the 6 point 15mm socket, heck I'm ready for the attack! Heat the first bolt up driver's side by radiator. After 25 seconds something is smoking. I stop let it clear. I think it's good to turn. I should have applied heat for the full minute. Got me bring Breaker Bar. Moves a wee bit. Later I apply more heat. Same thing, smoke. I don't apply anymore torch heat. Thinking that was my error. You warned us! Wrenching carefully, then the thing breaks free. Yay! BUT trying to spin it out it meets resistance again, and then breaks free, and resistance, and an endless cycle. Will not retract out even the slightest bit. Bummer. It must have spun the cage nut. Having a tough time this Sunday morning July 2. Can't find where or how to get something down there to stop that nut plate from spinning. Hate it when this happens. Any guidance appreciated, I will try to return the favor.

Just did this on my 2011 f250. I didn't have a lift so I used a jack. If you lift the cab right after the 2nd mount by the front doors it will give you clearance for all 4. I did one side at a time. Only 2 of 8 came apart. I had to saw the others out. Took me 6 miserable hours by myself but I am a plumber not a truck mechanic.

The "Trick" is to leave about half the bolt in the bushing (to protect the threads) and wack it with a 3 lb hammer, they knock the bottom plate right out and you can continue to remove the bolt. Then work the rubber (It will still be in useable condition) off and slide on the new bushing.

AutoRex....I ordered the Dorman parts today to do only the front bushings on my 2008 Ford F250 at this time.....I have been looking at my truck and it looks impossible to get to the nuts behind the foglamp area....are they cage nuts and don't have to get a wrench on them, or will they spin when trying to remove the bolt from underneath? Also looks like Dorman sends all new parts so if I have to cut the bolt off, will be covered....haven't tried loosening them yet. Many Thanks for your helpful video....Mark in TX

@DossKevinD 5 жыл бұрын
You probably have already done this job, but for those wondering, the front (radiator) bushings have caged nuts on top too and it's super easy to bend those cages. You will hate yourself if you do that. I replaced mine while I was doing all of the radiator work (common failure; replaced with Mishimoto on my 2008) and I ended up having to cut the bolt out with a reciprocating saw (Diablo carbide tipped metal blade is worth it). I have now looked at all of these bushing and they are in varying states of needing replacement. Taking your time, you could get all of them done in a Saturday afternoon if you don't encounter major issues (like a bent cage, setting your truck on fire, etc.) and have all the tools and parts ready to go.

Thanks for the video it helped out great.. I replaced with Daystar and regret it because they are way too hard. I even replaced the shocks with Bilsten and the ride is horrible. I'm even getting a clicking noise when I hit some bigger bump, it's could be because the daystar mounts are much smaller and might be shifting in the metal housing. I thought about replacing them with Dorman, but I'd rather go back with Ford so I can get a stock ride again. Can you please list the OEM Ford parts so I can find them online at a cheaper rate than the dealership (2010 F250)?

Thanks. These bushings came from the local Ford dealer as per the customer's request. I advise everyone against using Ford's OEM bushings because they still fail in the same short order as the originals, and they're expensive (over $500 for the set). Recommend using aftermarket bushings made from real rubber.

I would use silicone body mount bushings instead of the polyurethane bushings you suggested. The reason why polyurethane is organic and will break down whereas silicone is inorganic and will be more durable. My 2 cents.

So, I don't know how they compare to the feel when the originals were brand new. But, it was a great ride, the won't fall apart in 3-4 years like the OEM and if for some reason they do...they have a lifetime warranty. Can't go wrong with them in my opinion!

Can the cab mounts be replaced without having to remove the front mounts? My front mounts seem to be ok.
@dnycrane
@dnycrane 5 жыл бұрын
Yep, you can also leave in the "Third" middle one as it's rubber not foam. But there's no reason too since The "Trick" is to leave about half the bolt in the bushing (to protect the threads) and wack it with a 3 lb hammer, they knock the bottom plate right out and you can continue to remove the bolt. Then work the rubber (It will still be in useable condition) off and slide on the new bushing.

So I have a 2010 F250 (6.4l PSD). I don't have access to a lift which seems it would make the job much easier. Can it be done? And just to be certain...you don't have to do anything on the inside of the cab? No need to pull carpet or anything? It can all be done from the bottom?

@@michael4962 Four Wheel Parts did the work without removing the cab for nearly $1000 left than what the Ford dealer near me wanted. Roughly $1000 to lift cab/labor and $1000 in parts. I told them they were crazy. Daystar body bushing kit and 4.wheel parts saved me about $1000. I've got out of the truck since...I realized that no matter how well I took care of the truck, I wasn't going to be able to afford to fix it when it took a crap. Not to mention someone really needs to know what they're doing working on these. Back into the gas world. Perhaps I'll return to the diesel world sometime after in life. I do miss the truck. This was an excellent video. But I do have a few questions if you don't mind. First of all, what model year did Ford begin to make the mounts where you don't need to access them from the inside and pull up carpet, etc? You mention at one point in the video "Don't need to pull up carpet like you had to on the older model trucks". Your truck is a a 2011 (hence a 6.7). I have seen vids of this done on the 6.0's where guys did have to access bolts from the inside. But mine is a 6.4. Specifically a 2008 early build Job 1. Any idea if I can do mine the way you did in above video?

Sometimes you have to wedge a prybar up inside the core support between the nut and the sheetmetal. There should be an opening in both sides of the core support to allow this. Also. Soak the bullshit out of them with PB Blaster.

@AutoRex101
@AutoRex101 7 жыл бұрын
+Kyle Baca As long as you do not raise the cab any higher than is necessary to replace the upper mounts, you do not have to disconnect anything. The cab only has to rise about 1/2" above its normal ride height to remove them. I do about two of these per month and never have any problems or comebacks doing it that way. The process is really simple, but I can imagine saltier climates would cause problems for people separating the mounts, so stock up on PB Blaster if you live in that climate. The most important thing is to keep the cage nuts from stripping. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I need you help further buddy. I got into it and was able to remove 7 of the 8 body mounts screws. One looks like the nut was broken by the guys who took the cab off to replace the oil cooler a couple months back when I broke down in North Carolina. They told me then I'd need to replace the mounts, but wanted an arm and a leg to do it so I thought I'd try or get my mechanic here in Arkansas to do it. Well, I'm stuck at this point and am looking for some advice on how to remove the spinning nut. It is located in the 3d from front drivers side. I can't replace the other 3 either because that mount won't let the cab lift (I think). How would I remove this nut? Thanks buddy. Brent

+C3 Voyage Try heating the bolt then raising the cab in the area next to the mount so as to put pressure on the stripped nut and hold it in place. Thats the only non-destructive way I've found to get around the problem of stripped cage nuts. Funny, I once broke down in NC too. Damn possum took out our rental car! Let me know if you have any further questions.

Driver's side, 3d from front. I was told by the guys that did the oil cooler just now that there is a backup plug under the carpet like the pre-08's had. He said I have to remove the back seat and trim to lift the carpet, remove plug and put a socket on it. I'm going to be ticked if there's no plug! : O) Will let you know one way or another. Brent

Hello - thanks for the video - I don't have access to a lift so I am going to build a t-shape wooden structure along with using common floor jacks and just do one side at a time - I see where you attached your lift but do I need another jack up front by the fender to help get to the front mounts near the engine? I assume it's better to replace all the cab mounts at the same time right? I only have 3 on each side as my truck is a super cab - thank you
@AutoRex101
@AutoRex101 7 жыл бұрын
+Larry A The cab is rigid enough that you should not need anything extra in the front. One side at a time should work. Honestly I have never done it without a two-post lift but these cabs are very light and I could definitely see it getting done with jacks and wood blocks. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Hey man! AWESOME video. I can't tell you how many videos there out there about building stupid ass tools and welding pipes , etc, etc...that have all intimidated me almost to the point of paying someone to do this. I have a 2011 F250 6.7l with bad mounts and am DEFINITELY using your video as a way forward. But if you could, would you describe how you torqued the bolts? Was the cab on or off the frame when you torqued the bolts and what was the torque value? Thanks Again!-J
@AutoRex101
@AutoRex101 7 жыл бұрын
+John Haines Thanks for the comment. The cab must be fully lowered onto the new upper mounts before you can torque the bolts. Otherwise they will be pulling the weight of the frame upward. I always start the bolts with the body raised first just to make sure everything is located properly, then lower the cab and torque. I torque them to 80ft lbs and use a thread locker like blue loctite.
