I have a 2023 Outback, that I ordered (built to my specs) in Dec-22. I officially purchased it on 3/4/23. At the end of last week, the exact same thing you see in this video happened. I called, told them the issue, they said we have a software update that will fix it. Brought it in, was told the software update was complete - specifically asked if it fixed this issue, they said Yes. Got in the car, and tested it - still was not working. Drove right back into the service bay. Just got a text today saying it was fixed "they reset the entire system and did a battery discharge" - fancy name for they unhooked the battery. I will be documenting this to see how long the fix lasts. Based on this video and others looks like this is a known issue. Thanks for the video, I should send the link to the service tech.

My 2023 WRX lost its audio with all sources when I turned it on this morning, I thought that the amplifier blew since everything else was working fine, checked the fuses with no issues. I finally scheduled an appointment at the Subaru dealer (next appointment was 3 days later). I ended up watching your video, followed your instructions and the WRX is back to normal, thanks Man!!! 😊

Thank you so much for posting this! It worked like a charm and saved me an enormous amount of hassle and aggravation. Having the photo of the disconnected battery also helped. I wasn't sure if it mattered which pole to disconnect, and the negative one was very easy to get to. Thank you!

Exactly same problem, 2022 Forester Wilderness. Your solution worked perfectly. Disconnected negative for 20 minutes, reconnected and started up. Really appreciate your video

Thank you, wish I had found this video before changing out the fuse which didn't work. This resolved the issue in a few simple steps.

New download this week did it to me this time. Different version of software but same results and this worked!!

Thank you for this video, after trying everything else, this was the only thing that helped.Subaru needs to fix this issue.. it’s seems a common thing , what a let down 😢from Subaru… I Love my legacy xt but those electronics do malfunction for no reason .

Thank you. 2020 Outback, same problem. I shut the car off a couple times with no luck and turned off the display as you. The third time, after watching your video and finding a wrench, I thought I'd tried it and it worked before disconnecting the battery. Got lucky. It got one software update and Subaru won't give me any more.

I did buy a wireless CarPlay adapter for my 2021 Outback and while there’s a slight audio lag (phone and streaming audio) there are some handy features that become available. With the adapter “your passenger” can type locations in the map nav while you’re driving, AND you can now drag map location on the touch screen. I found these features to be worthy.

Our 2020 Onyx XT just had the battery settlement work completed and now we are struck with this same intermittent "NO SOUND" issue. Normally, the Entertainment system comes out of it, but I might have to disconnect the battery cable to get the sound working again (Nice feature, SUBARU)

So glad you posted this. Mine just started with this bullshit. I genuinely hate this stupid car and cannot believe anyone would design it this way. Just enraging all around.

Same issue here. 2021 Outback XT Limited. The interface freezes all the time too, no updates have ever resolved the freezing.

Thanks, this apparently fixed the same issue I just had on my 2021 Outback Limited. Friday morning I drove my wife to a doctor's appointment and then we went to BK for lunch. When we left the restaurant, the radio was working fine. As we sat at the traffic light, it went out. I switched to FM and then AM from the Sirius XM I was listening to to no avail. I did a soft restart several times on the way home. I switched to a music app on my phone. The infotainment center looked like it was playing sound, but no sound came from the car stereo system. I parked my car at home and left for work an hour or so later, still no sound. Restarted the infotainment system several times, still no sound. Disconnected the battery Saturday morning and left it disconnected for several minutes, and everything worked once again.

Can you explain how to do the break discharge

Is it okay to disconnect the battery as suggested on a hybrid cross trek? Same audio issues and reset didn’t work.

Thanks! I experienced no audio this morning in my 2023 Forester. I took it to the dealership and they disconnected / re-connected the battery and it currently works. I am so annoyed. This shouldn’t be happening.

That worked. Thanks for the info. I love my Subaru outback, but in all honesty the infotainment is garbage on it. Super slow and disconnects Bluetooth all of the time.

If it’s just the audio that isn’t working you can also just pull the audio amplifier fuse out and reinstalling it.

I have a 24 Ascent and I am having the same problem where the radio sound goes out. When I click on the station & the radio screen pops up and I touch the different stations, nothing happens. I have to turn the system off and then it back on in order for the radio to work.

This is the first issue I've had in the nearly two years I've had my Forester

This seems to happen when there is a software update. Whenever I pull back home, and reconnect to Wi-Fi, it finishes the update and seems to work. I just got my car out of repairs, so the battery was pulled too.

I have a 2019 Crosstrek with same issue. I cannot believe Subaru cannot fix this issue with so many models and years

So since I first watched this video I think I might have figured out the problem with my radio audio and cutting out problem. So it seems that if I hit the source button on my steering wheel the audio comes back on. It has worked each time my radio cut out. Hope this helps someone else.

My '22 WRX had problems before, and they updated it. Then, everything worked fine. Then, the other day it started doing the same thing, no sound, no volume control, lagging volume up/down, no touchscreen beeping. I didconnected the battery for 5 minutes, then everything is working. Just doesn't make any sense.

My son has a 2022 Forester Sport. It is a little over a year old and the on-off volume button as fallen apart. Radio keeps trying to re-boot continuously won't go to sleep mode and is killing the battery. Car is out of warranty because of mileage. His job is on the road most of the time. Is there anything he can do?

Jeesh, it's so stupid that you have to go to these lengths just to get the radio to work. I bought a 2020 Outback last month and I've had this happen twice. Fortunately, the radio came back once I turned the car off and then restarted it but I'm still annoyed that this is a common problem which is unresolved by Subaru.

Does this mean that the battery needs to be replaces?

2024 outback. Mine does this. They gave no fix but just said pull over and turn the vehicle off and on again. That isn't safe or acceptable.

Hey i have a 2024 Subaru legacy sport… i installed a subwoofer to my car and my audio keeps cutting out just like this… have you found anything new.

I'm getting this constantly on a 2024 limited. Ridiculous.

I just got my 2024 Subaru WRX three days ago, and it already happened. Very frustrating on a brand new car. I will try this fix later on, and keep you posted.
