The police academy spends plenty of time on laws of arrest, constitutional rights as well as local & state law. The academy normally runs 1000 hours, then recruits begin their field training working under one on one supervision of a senior training officer on the street. It takes almost a year for a rookie officer to complete all their training and work independently.
