Here's a huge coyote I got recently. I'm sure I saved the lives of several young moose this coming spring by removing this canine from the food chain. Enjoy

Well sir Deon, that is some good story telling there and don't think you missed much detail. That's what coyotes do to ya drive ya nuts! One thing I found out is if you shoot one of a paired up couple wait for at least 15 min the mate will come to the other for sure I found that out few times during mating season! He's a big one too. Good stuff! We were out yesterday am and pm and located couple also full moon now for more fun. Ultimate addiction eh?

Great story there ol man! What gun and calliper are you shooting? Looks like a sweet rig?

Its a savage model Ruger 204 caliber, with a Boyd's gun stock on it.

This animals could be an Eastern wolf, it is a species of wolf smaller than the gray wolf but larger than the coyote, it inhabits the southern regions of Ontario and Quebec (unfortunately Quebec does not recognize the eastern wolf as a species, they consider it a Coywolf), they are a species in danger of extinction (from what I saw there are 500 individuals)

wow what a chase , But you got him, did you have him checked also to see if he was a hibrid, rater large for a coyote , and seemed heavier boned , your perserverence paid off congs.

Great hunt Deon. Where did the first shot hit?
@HOTRhuntinontherock4 ай бұрын
I was scared someone would ask that, lol. First I will say I knocked my gun quite hard earlier that day, and I think it got knocked out of line. I had a perfect rest and relaxed but looked like the first shot hit its right leg just above the paw, passed through of course, and must have entered the coyote in the back end somewhere. For it to drop motionless for such a long time it was more then just a front paw hit. (It was sitting so that put its front paw in front of him but really low. I will test the gun as soon as we get a windless day

@@HOTRhuntinontherockI was just curious, since he was down for that long and then got up and ran. I thought maybe he was hit high/neck area. They're a tough animal.

You need to try a moving decoy. I recently got the add on for my fox pro. Hopefully it works out for me. Also i use a small spotting scope tripod for my caller to keep it off the ground

Wonderful. Now you have an overpopulation of moose with not a lot of predators to control them.

I hope you learned a lesson. Make sure the animal is dispatched properly. There was no need for this animal to suffer like he did.

Sometimes things just go sideways no matter how well you plan the hunt. Good on you for having the tenacity to hang in there and finish the hunt. Well done!
