2 Retired CEO's Build a Ford Transit Camper Van For Full Time Travel

Jeff and Patti are two recently retired CEOs and they self converted a Ford Transit into a full Campervan. Jeff was a civil engineer and Patti was a computer scientist. They were both avid runners and recently got into elliptical workouts and built the van so they can boot each state on the country and ride 100 miles. This van has a full shower, toilet, two beds, lots of seating areas and much more. This Transit Campervan also has two sliding doors, one on each side.

They are definitely former CEO's I felt like I was at a company town hall meeting😊. I love that they chose a budget and stuck to it, and I love the permanent twin/murphy twin setup. That was a great idea especially for solo travelers and couple of a certain age. It's so thoughtful of each other.

The build is a great design and space saver. I like the dual beds, the hidden kitchen area, the shower and the two tables by the swivel seats.

Love the shower/toilet set up. And love all the different fold out counter top pieces. I even love the leather pulls...no worries about getting snagged on them when walking passed. The frameless drawers are something i never thought of, but great idea so that you get more room out of every drawer👍 Thanks for another helpful van tour Patrick...keep them coming...I appreciate all of them.

Totally digging the Van build that services you guys needs. I really like the two bed idea, the fact the it accommodates both of your sleeping styles early 🦜and night 🦉… 😊❤️ Great budget ideas for people who want to do Vanlife but think they can’t because it would be to expensive. The best part is the use of space for two people and a fury family member. Love seeing people live life on their terms. Thanks for sharing

What a great design - one of the best well-thought-out builds I've seen to date. & for $11k wow! Seating versatility is second to none. Love the stove sink fridge placement. For a bunch of reasons, it is the configuration I have as well. The bed set up is brilliant Amazingly you have a shower in such a small unit Great placement for the offset overhead fan - mine is in the middle of the van between the same rib A great question that you asked - "What would you change now that you have used it for a stretch".

Vantastic I have a 2022 awd expecting delivery this August. And boy am I glad I saw this video I was going to do side bunk beds but this just nails it perfectly on the bed situation and so many more. I plan on going modular with key infrastucture things permanently installed. Would love to know where they got the hinges for the fold down bed and the push button lights.

We think it’s a great way to use minimal electricity. Did we mention they’re LED and draw very little. They are dimmable, but we don’t use that feature at all.

Great design. I also have an Inergy Apex. They're good power stations, though they're now making the Flex model instead. The one before the Apex was the Kodiak.

We like it too, it's tough to beat that footprint. We just got the extra battery, but waiting for the power cord to connect it. I think it will go down in the compartment where the Truma heater lives. Come on @Inergy!

Thanks, EK. Always looking for ways to best use the under sink pantry spot. That's our second iteration of containers. Just saw an idea yesterday in one of Patrick's other van tour videos that we will be trying! (hanging a dishtowel from a hook) Still looking for a way to have a hands-free hand sanitizer dispenser by the sink area. Please let us know if you have a good idea.

One of the cool things about the Murphy bed we didn't mention, I can still walk between the bed and the sink/oven unit when the bed is down. (Jeff has to turn sideways)

I noted the size specific choice for accessing cities and outback. The sleep configuration is realistic for the reasons given. Bet food is great out of Italian frig. 🍽🍷🍒🍠.The electric and lighting is versatile and thoughtful. Your pantry cupboards are ample with space specific for cookware. The head and hot water shower surely provide essential comforts for a complete home. Nice to see your well planned van and retirements. Do you do continuous 100 mile treks per state or log in 100 throughout various short rides while instate? Enjoy the Ride! I appreciate your tour of great ideas.

It's funny, we thought the 8 USB ports in there were a "lot". Then we realized all the other places and devices we needed to charge. We wonder if our van holds the record for number of USB ports. We might have to do a small video and count the USB ports in our build.

Your ability to get two beds in the high top ford transit was fantastic . Have you guys done 100 miles in ct yet?

@@druu988 Not yet. Do you have any suggestions for a flat, traffic free 100 miler? We like paved rail trails in a star pattern best. That way we can come back to the van to refuel and check on kitty!

BRILLIANT people designing a brilliant van. Definitely in TOP -5 van design builds I have seen in my 5 years of over-consumption of thousands (!) of van videos. ANOTHER reason why spending $200$-300K on a retail van is pure insanity. When you have nice appliances and design, for a literal fraction of the price of RV manufacturers poorly constructed money traps. Sprinters mechanically cost a fortune to maintain, promasters have russian-roulette transmissions, among many other design/reliability issues, transits are ultra-cheap to maintain and low-profile too. Mitigates theft when visiting blue-cities.

I’m 6 foot and own the same van. You can do a 6’ tall full mattress east-west. You just have to make the walls thin. Like 2 and a half inches.

Patti and Jeff- what fantastic presentation skills you have! I love your build. The thing that strikes me about your build is that you don’t have to find places for all your toys in a separate place in your house garage as they are always ready to go with the van. That must be so convenient! This could be the toy hauler of van life!!!!😀 I was wondering what you do to keep critters out, given the holes for the propane bottle and shore power? Do you have mesh there or some other deterrent?

Great question, Katy. I’m going to key Jeff respond to this question because I am fanatic about critters coming in & have peppermint sachets in the stair steps up front as that is a known entry point. Maybe I’ll spray peppermint on those points you mentioned too. Ewwww!

Thanks Katy! For the propane vent, we used a 3" PVC vent cover that had a screen mesh and a grill so hopefully the critters won't chew thru it!

@@jeffhines979 - His solution for supporting a fixed platform bed is to have 4 inch aluminum beams on their sides. The higher the bed, the more toys you can store underneath.
