Have you had the pleasure of using one of these lights before? What did you think? I can't get over how satisfying the big red knob is to use 😅

I just ordered the light. Was sad to see the output is much weaker than similar lights. RX 7 from atomcube is better IMO.

@@TimeKillersAddendum The DASH really falls somewhere in the middle compared to other non-lensed pocket lights. At typical video settings like ISO 400-1600, 1/50 second, and f/2.8-f/5.6, I rarely have to turn any pocket light up over 25-50%. It's all relative, and in real use, 300 lux Vs. 500 lux is only the difference between f/3.2 vs f/4, so unless you're constantly needing your pocket lights at 100% brightness, it's a non-issue. By comparison here is the brightness of the first 5 (non-lensed) RGB pocket lights from my light comparison tool: Aputure MC: 116 lux Godox R1: ~180 lux Godox C5R: ~230 lux Ivisii G2: 287 lux Weeylite RB9: 278 lux Obviously not a complete sample size by any means, but the DASH is brighter than all 5. I think if you're in need of a lot of brightness from a small light, a lensed option is better, like the Aputure MC Pro, Nanlite LitoLite 5C, or slightly bigger lights like the Lupo Kickasspanel. Or you could just go big with a 60 watt pocket light like the BOLING Allspark BL-A60. Definitely not saying the RX 7 isn't a good light, just want any readers to have the full picture because when people see/hear that one light is DOUBLE the brightness, it seems like a lot, but in camera settings, it's actually a pretty small difference!

@@TimeKillersAddendum The Spider Crab magic arms from iFootage are my favorite, and so much better than any other magic arms: Shorter one: geni.us/ifootagespidercrabma34 Longer one: geni.us/ifootagespidercrabma56 If you have grab clamps already, you could use those, but they make some too: geni.us/ifootagegrabclamp They also have "lite" versions that don't have the quick releases, but I find those invaluable if you can swing it. Hope that helps.

Thanks! Definitely no knock on the MC Pro, I love both. Aputure just did some very smart cost cutting/innovation while still providing a killer light. These lights just feel as if someone said, "create the best pocket light possible, money is no object".

I own 8 of these CRMX and you are correct these are the best pocket lights on the market, just got the octa 8 lite charging case for them and it’s an awesome piece of kit. Global 3D printing in the UK makes some nice snoots for them as well.

I'd like to see a comparison video between the DMG Dash vs the Aputure MC Pro lights! According to the Aputure spec page for the MC Pro they are 396 LUX at 1M at 5600K which is a bit brighter than the DMG Dash's 290 LUX.
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 11 ай бұрын
I did a full video on the MC Pro here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lap2ksuEmpbVaYE.html The MC Pro is only 5 watts, while the DASH is nearly three times the power. The reason the MC Pro is "brighter" is because it has a lens on the front. So the front plastic focuses the light into a 45 degree beam angle, whereas the DASH has a clear cover in front of the LEDs, so the beam angle is ~120 degrees. Neither is really better, it just depends on your preference, but it's a personal mission to teach people to understand and compare brightness across different brands and products, because it's easy to get caught up in numbers that aren't really comparable for one reason or another. Hope that all makes sense!

It's just some generic magic arm I got that came included with something else a long time ago. You can find a ton of different magic arms on Amazon, or, I almost exclusively use the Spider Crab ones from iFootage now because they're so much stronger/better. geni.us/ifootagespidercrabma34 geni.us/ifootagespidercrabma56

I have one of these that i loved. Unfortunately is currently bricked due to what i think may be a battery issue. I moved from the UK to Australia within the warranty period but the local Rosco service centre was as useful as a chocolate teapot. its currently sitting on my desk as a paper weight.

A plus for the MC Pro over the Dash is that you can turn it on and off via the app. With the Dash I have to reach round the back and press the button.
@cfl4286
@cfl4286 2 ай бұрын
The MC pros are really nice and basically half the price, but the sidus link app is just so bad with disconnecting, failing to reconnect, lag, etc. It’s not a reliable enough solution for a professional set, so it’s not really an advantage over the dash imo. All love to the Mc pro tho. I have a dash 4 light kit and would still love an 8 light kit of mc pros just for the price and functionality.

Can this light run at 100% while also charging? (thinking about running while attached to a battery brick to extend run time for live events?)
@NewLayer

Yes, the light is 14W max, and supports 5V/3A charging. So as long as your battery brick supports that, you should be good to go!

Amazing review! I wish that 4 link had a power output Vmount option. 3 hrs is a blink of an eye on set. Can these run while being charged? And does it match Rosco 3308 tough minus green?
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 9 ай бұрын
Yes, you can definitely use them while they're charging, so you could attach a v-mount to your light stand and use a D-tap to USB adapter or USB out directly from some V-mounts with a splitter to power them while in use. I did a video on this D-TAP to USB-C adapter that I love because it gives you 100W of output: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pJdyZr2etqqxZas.html Combine that with a 1-to-4 splitter and you can plug all 4 lights in on the 4-link easily. I'm not able to check if they have a preset for that gel at the moment, but you can manually match absolutely anything if you have to!

hey man im really torn between this light and the PILOTCINE Atomcube RX7 pocket light. the rx7 is like half the price, and more color accurate TLCI and Double the brightness at the same distance. I dont get it. Why is the RX7 Cheaper? what am i missing... please help.
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 6 ай бұрын
There's a few reasons that stand out to me, some of which you may not care about. 1. The RX7 doesn't have the modifier system or modifiers, which I think are one of the DASH's biggest selling points. The DASH also has the DOT available and the Quad adapter available. 2. The CCT range on the DASH is significantly bigger 3. The DASH is IP65 certified when it comes to weatherproofing 4. The DASH has a bigger battery and longer run time 5. The build quality on the DASH is much, much better. Pilotcine is not a no name brand, but they are a pretty darn niche product. I would get the Aputure MC Pro before the RX7 if you don't want to spring for the DASH. The MC Pro is essentially the same price but has all the magnetic modifiers, it better built, the special FX are as good as it gets, and it's hard to beat the Sidus Link mobile app. Yes, neither is as bright, but it's a negligible difference in my opinion if you intend to use them as back/accent lights. I use the MC Pro as a rim light at only 15% brightness, so having a brighter pocket light wouldn't help. Hope that helps!

Awesome content as usual! do you know if the dot diffuser will fit the MC Pro?
@NewLayer
@NewLayer Жыл бұрын
Thank you! And no, it won't. The DOT has magnets which align with the magnetic modifier on the DASH. It also has elastic straps to secure it, so although it COULD work on another pocket light without the magnets on the front, the MC Pro is barely as wide as the straps at the edges, so there's no real way to strap it on. I'm sure you could rig something custom up but... depends if you want to do that, hehe.

In ur opinion, any difference in the light quality between mc pro and this light? I’m torn now as the MC has a bubble diffuser which sort of takes away the obvious advantage the dash had. What are your thoughts?
@NewLayer
@NewLayer 8 ай бұрын
Both are very good and I wouldn't really choose one over the other when it comes to white light color accuracy. I will say that the DASH seems to provide more vibrant colors at certain parts of the spectrum since it has a bigger range of colored LEDs. The MC Pro has a lensed front element, the DASH lasts longer on battery, and while the MC Pro has great build quality, the DASH is incomparably well-built. The 4-link is really awesome too if you ever plan to use that. Hope that helps.
@cfl4286

Ive used both and own a 4 light dash kit. Love the MC pros. The dash is just a better built unit with better colors and runs excellent over CRMX. It’s double the price, but well worth it for something that truly will last for years and years imo.
