Kabilang si 4th District Leyte Rep. Richard Gomez sa mga tumutol sa House Bill No. 9349 o ang panukalang absolute divorce sa bansa.
Ayon kay Gomez, naniniwala siya sa kabanalan ng kasal.

Bakit kasi mali yung napiling asawa? Kasalanan yan ng mga nagmamadali magpakasal na akala nila kagaya ng kanin na mainit na kapag sinubo pwedeng iluwa. Nasa bibliya na sagrado ang kasal dahil sumpaan yan ng dalawang taong nag iibigan sa harap ng Panginoon. Kaya kung may mga taong bonak na kagaya mo na maling tao ang pinakasalan, kasalanan mo na yan.

Marriage is a lifetime choice, kaya nga tinatanong ng pari kung sigurado na ba ang magpapakasal sa desisyon nila. Kadalasan kasi ng mga magpapakasal, hindi dumadaan sa mga seminars kaya akala nila na parang kaning mainit yan na pwede nilang iluwa anytime na mapaso sila. Kung ayaw nyo ng divorce wag nyong ipagkait sa iba. Wag nyong iapply sa sarili nyong karasanan ang desisyon nyo para ganitong usapin. Iconsider nyo ang karanasan ng ibang tao. Deze man heeft heel apart mentaliteit. Divorce is the answer when the couple doesn't have peace anymore in their daily lives. Here in Europe, they respect each other even they are divorced. Nothing changed except that they are not living together in one house . Father can still do his responsibilities to his children and the children have their schedule when they would like to sleep in the house of their father. We are open minded here. Even the catholic people here are in favor in divorce. Why are you suffering together when you both can't meet your likes and opinions everyday? That's not healthy living. Marriage is onne of the best gifts in life. Yung may ka-share ka sa lahat ng struggles mo sa buhay. Kaya hindi dapat nagpapakasal agad, make sure na ikakasal ka dun sa taong kahit nung di pa kayo kasal ay karamay mo na sa lahat ng problema at if masaya ka eh masaya rin sa mga success mo. Before finding the right one, be the right one muna. May divorce man or wala kung tamang tao kayo para sa isa't isa, hindi kayo maghihiwalay. NO to divorce. This is not the solution to the root of the problem. Ang solusyon ay ang pagpapatibay ng pamilya at kasal. Ang kailangan ay maigting na marriage counseling bago ikasal at mga programa na magpapatibay sa marriages. Ang kasal ay panunumpa ng mag-asawa sa Diyos. Hindi ito for legality lang. Ito ay pang habambuhay na commitment kaya ito ang kailangan ipaunawa sa mga gustong mag-asawa. Walang impossible sa Diyos natin. Walang relasyon na hindi kayang ayusin basta isusuko natin ito kay JESUS.
