Thanks for posting this. I worked at WTOP TV in the early 1970s. I bet we had the same cameras that this was shot on. They were made by GE.

I wish one of these existed for every day in 1968.

Just a week or 2 later, Vanderbilt University started a network news archive, recording ABC, CBS & NBC weekday network newscasts off the local Nashville tv stations in B&W. Vanderbilt didn't start taping the newscasts in color until 1979, and I think by now it's added tapes from various cable news networks.

As a DC native, I was 15 years old and we lived in DC from 1968-69. In retrospect and in looking at other DC news broadcast, the announcers speak and talk in a deadpan manner.

Back in those days, history recorded that the Johnson administration monitored not only all three of the major networks, but also the local channels out of DC. As I have learned over the years, Johnson and his cronies were dirty.

I remember him registering disgust with his weatherman at the time for his lighthearted delivery. The weatherman was Pat Sajak.

One of the oldest videos of a news report I have seen. I was 2 years old when all of that was going on.

i'd recently turned 3 years old myself on the above-listed date. BTW, Mary Jo Catlett, later on MASH & the final maid on DIFF'RENT STROKES, appeared in the Sinclair commercial starting at 21:39.

I wish news channels would report the news, without their personal views, like the news used to be. News channels these days are politically motivated and people just want the news and nothing but the news. We can form our own opinions.
