On today's MorningLine, we talk about the fascinating James Webb Space Telescope, how it compares to the Hubble Telescope, and what new information can we receive from this technology. Billy Teets, Director of the Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory, joins us to answer these questions, and show us some of the incredible images we've gotten so far. Be sure to watch!

"What is the difference between a star and a planet?" I'm sorry, Mornningline. This was painful.

‘Nick Beres’ is the name of the clueless TV host. It is hard to imagine someone not knowing the difference between stars and planets. I did meet one guy, a Jehovah witness follower whom believed stars are the souls of people that died. I had to clarify to him that no, the stars in the night sky are actually just like our Sun, and like our Sun likely to have planets orbiting around them, like our Earth or Mars. Blew his mind.

“What is the difference between a star and a planet?” Sweet baby Jesus in heaven! That’s hard hitting interviewing right there. The guy was so taken aback by that question, I’m sure he had to bite his lower lip.

Sorry, but found the host was interrupting too much! Very frustrating! So kudos to Billy Teets for keeping his cool. It is so hard keeping your facts together when one is interrupted before finishing a difficult explanation (difficult as one is trying to explain to non physicists a complex set of facts in a simpler way to help us understand).

Though these pictures are cool what new have we seen? It just more of the same shots I have seen since I have been alive. This is very expensive entertainment. Can we benefit at all from this awsome telescope?

If some of the galaxies in these photos from Webb are 13 billion light years away does that mean that we’re seeing light that is 13 billion years old? Could it not be there now? I also don’t understand if the fastest we can travel is 186,200 mi./s which is the speed of light how is it that we can get infrared images that get here a lot sooner than light would ? How does it travel faster than light? Very confusing.

our chemistry happened a long time ago. 4 billion years ago. Ain't nobody else out there. the leap from prokaryote to eukaryote ... ain't gonna happen, any time soon.
