I'd love to see the back of the work... what would you use this stitch for? if the back of the work is an interweave of many strands of yarn, it's obviously not reversible, but also quite bulky, and the different 'threads' might 'catch' on things...

How would you do this in the round? Also i'm doing some ribbing and I wan't to have the knit stitches one color and the purl stitches another... How could I do this??? :)

Kaila Bruce Kaila Bruce this is similar to double knitting. If you were to work it in the round you would only do the RS row -R1 til you get the length of tube you like. This won't show up as a rib. If you want the purl stitches to show then just k2 p2 in the round switching colors for each. Just cross the different color yarns as you switch so you don't get a tangled mess or tension issues 😊

I'm still new to knitting and I'm on my second scarf for a close friend well after his one is done I'm making a nother for a nother friend and his known for red and black and my question is with this way of knitting with to colours does this work for longer lengths of the same colour before switching to the second colour?

I once tried knitting a plaid swatch with 1 stitch black stripes, and I think it was 3 row green stripes and I forget how many red stitches and rows. But anyway I was knitting a so called true plaid(in other words, no crochet duplicate stitch involved, just knitting) I did it stranded and horizontally striped. So I would do a 2 color long tail cast on in the color repeat I wanted, knit each stitch in the color it was cast on(so stranded colorwork), then once I finish the red stripe I cut the yarn and started the green stripe, continuing to knit the black as normal. Then I cut the green yarn and repeated what I did previously. Is there any difference between your vertical striping method and mine other than that yours involves slipping stitches whereas mine is just knitting across?

Is there anything one can do about the curling?? It’s expected as this is essentially stockinette stitch, however, can one add some kind of a border to help with the curling? I’m trying to make a headband using this pattern.

Make a ribbed border, maybe? You could still do the longtail cast on with the pretty braided effect, then k2 p2 for one round with one color and then switch to the other until you get to the pattern? Just throwing out ideas.

I would've like to see the back of the work as well, also if you were working on double point needles could you work both yarns across after each pass example two knit sides then two purl sides? Or does that just become a brioche style knit?

I don't see any reason why you couldn't do that. The floats would be pretty long cycling through 6 colors though.

There's only one way to find out! Mind you, I will add, whenever I have tried to be 'clever' with a pattern and introduce a new 'angle', it hasn't often worked out as I would have liked... but give it a go. You can always undo, and learn, if it doesn't work...! Let us know how you get on! Good luck!

It does work. If you're getting the 'error, page not found' message, look at the top Right-hand corner, for a little cross. click it. That exposes the main home page. There's a search box. Type simple vertical stripe stitch' in the box. click the 'magnifying glass'. It will take you to the written instructions.

yes, Just omit the single stitches at the end, and alternate the columns. Use a stitch marker to denote the start and finish of the rows. You only need to do knit rows, because the 'purl' is taken care of, in the round. Do one row one colour, the other colour in the next row. Alternate.

when you're binding off, shouldn't intarsia rules apply? Bring up each new color from underneath? You'd think it would need to be at least consistent, in order to make a design along the top -- either bring up each new color from underneath, or from the top. And usually, this is used as a cuff or hat brim, so it just continues on into some other stitch, like stockinette for instance, so a bind-off isn't a problem, which people might like to know.
