This video gives a detailed explanation of the friction force. It includes one easy to follow worked example problem. The friction force opposes the motion of an object. The friction force comes from the surface as an object moves across it. There are two types of friction forces, static friction and kinetic friction. The amount of friction between two surfaces is described by the coefficient of friction.

i love you sir, i missed my physics lectures due to illness and couldn't find anyone to explain friction to me, and my exam is literally 10 hours from now. I understood it, I just didn't know how to use the laws to solve the problems. thank you.

Excellent video!! One question - I understand completely how you are calculating the maximum amount of static friction force but I cannot intuitively explain to myself why this equation should give us the maximum value to begin with. (Ffs,max = MUs • Fn) where the maximum force of static friction is equal to the static friction coefficient times the normal force. Also, since the force of static friction can be variable up until its maximum amount, why wouldn’t the equation at 10:32 give us different coefficients of friction? Thank you for any assistance you can provide and again, excellent video!!!
