You might think you know Newton's Third Law of Motion, but there's an intricate detail that I want to discuss with you - many people get this wrong!
Hey guys, I'm back (rather predictably) with Newton's Third Law of Motion. If you haven't already, check out my videos for Newton's First and Second Laws here: • Learn Newton's Laws of...
So we often hear Newton's Third Law of Motion being stated as "Every Action has an Equal and Opposite Reaction", or even "Every Action comes with a Reaction". But these don't really do the Law much justice. If we discuss Newton's Third Law in these terms, then it becomes very easy to get confused about a few things. Firstly, why don't the two equal and opposite forces just cancel each other out and result in nothing happening overall? Secondly, what forces do the objects act on?
In this video, I wanted to clarify these potential misconceptions in ONE MINUTE. This video is the third one I've done so far trying to explain Physics in one minute, but I want to make a lot more like this. So please let me know in the comments below any areas of Physics you'd like me to try and explain in a minute.

I've been learning about the bats that live in my local wood and how to identify them by their echolocation calls. I recently learned that some moths evolved to hear bats' echolocation calls so brown long-eared bats evolved big ears so that they could 'whisper' their echolocation calls and sneak up on the moths! How cool is that?

One thing that I just found out. An extra note that i was missing in Whole Lotta Love that makes it sound a lot more correct. I just turned 61. I used to fabricate, build electronic circuits, built my own TIG welder and had a reasonably fun life in California. Now I find myself stuck in Michigan as it is turning winter. I just had a small stroke. Im trying to find things to be interested in and stay healthy.

Could you explain what the time span is between the action and the reaction? And if your answer would be "none", why is the word 'reaction ' used, since it seems clear that in order to react on something, this something first must have taken place?

It is instantaneous...it's reaction cause it's only when the force is given

You didn't spoke about inertial and non-inertial coordinate systems, this is very critical to understanding mechanics.

Something that I truly enjoyed learning about was definitely Calculus. I always hated Maths...but Calculus just kinda clicked for me, and made me love Maths like no other subject. It's such a powerful tool, and it's extremely useful and really feeds my sense of curiosity!

As a science educator i have struggled with Newton's third. Whilst your outline here works well using colliding objects of presumably a certain mass, it does little to help in scenarios such as rocket, jet or propellor engines by example. Even more so for water rockets that i often employ as a classic example of all of Newton's Laws in action.

This can't be true. NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) have proven that newton's law is incorrect. They stated that WTC 1 & 2 collapsed at speeds just short of free fall due to the smaller, less dense portion of the 17 upper floors took out the bottom stronger and more dense 93 floors in 11 seconds. Further they state that wtc7, 47 story's high collapsed at free fall speeds on 6.5 seconds due to office combustion fires on several floors. If you take a loom at the collapse of all three buildings, including wtc7 where No plane hit you will see that the law of motion did not exist that day. It was as if newtons law was suspended for that one day. Take a look

I'll just throw this one up for ya's ;-) .... Skin Aperture Theory - The Higgs Inertia/Kinetic/Gravity mechanisms Assume the particle/atomic aperture is circular if stationary. 1. Forward movement through space distorts the symmetry in such away that the incoming spacial dowel pressure is higher on the side equivalent to the velocity vector. (Frame grabbing WISC distorts atomic aperture) Generating an imbalance in spacial flow resulting in permanent velocity along the same vector line. 2. The same WISC affect of Gravity distorts the "tail" of the particle increasing curvature distance and therefore decreasing G "flow" pressure opposite the larger mass' gravity flow causing the particle to accelerate along the Gravity vector recursing on 1. Note: There is an implication that the interface angle between our visible space and the BB space is always 90º regardless of Visible space vector direction! The best easiest tool for color grading is Apple iMovie! Ok, there are others. Adobe has one. But, if you have and Apple computer (I do), then you DON’T NEED ANYTHING ADOBE! That’s right! Not even Adobe Photoshop! Not even Adobe Elements! And definitely not Adobe Reader nor Adobe Flash. To save you a bit of money on photo editing software, I recommend Affinity - and if you are a real miser, get GIMP because it is free. It’s not nice to bash a vendor or its product, so I’m not saying that Adobe products aren’t good - they are great. You just don’t need it on a Mac. I also work on Windows computers and Linux computers. My favorite pastime is converting Windows computers to Linux. Even old Apple computers that can’t be upgraded will run Linux. So don’t throw away that old, slow computer. Give it new life and new speed by installing Linux on it. Which distro? Linux Mint is probably the best one for beginners because it just works with almost any peripheral device you connect to it - including astronomy stuff (but maybe with a little tinkering).
