I was 12 years old when I started watching your videos, now I’m 24 in the Marine Corps still watching your videos. Gotta setup that 180 gallon like you said. I’m dropping $12k on a custom 235, doing it correctly with a deep sand bed like you said in a few months. Gotta come back to the screen man.

WOW MAN! That is one serious set up, I can only imagine the thought, and the trial and error that went into your sump/Refugium. I am buying extra power heads based on this video alone! I generally assumed manufactured systems are designed to function as installed, I can see there is always room for improvement more clearly now. Thanks, I will keep watching!!

mate! i just had an anemone die which led to a nutrient spike leading to algae growth! My system was tarting to look really bad but thanks to my phosphate reactor I am back in control and just wanted to say that my entire tank apart from some extra automation was modeled on your set up! I have 26 fish and my nitrates are at 0.3ppm! I never has a a fish tank before and thanks to you i was able to jump straight in to reef keeping! Love your detailed advice and owe you all my enjoyment and success!

Watched the video again and picked up another tip. I had a brand new Maxi-Jet 400 just laying around so I added it to my first chamber of the sump. In power head mode, the output was only 110GPH. Although it moved the detritus around significantly, I decided to configure it as a circulation pump. In that mode, the output is about 500GPH. Now that first chamber almost looks detritus free! I ordered some Chemi-Pure elite and it will be in my sump on Thursday. Thanks again for the tips!

Hey Steelo! Thanks for the video! I have this exact setup! I started out with a bundle of cheautomorpha and it grew and grew like no tommorrow! It did that until it filled the refugium entirely! I realized after some time that this was not healthy to the system and I removed it all! I took a small clean lighter green cutting and put it back in the tank!

I also think that because newyorksteelo has a DSB and refugium the bio pellets are unnecessary because the system can process the nitrates anyway and the tank is balanced and mature. Good work NYS. Fantastic tank..

Hey Newyorksteelo, I have not commented on your channel in like a year and a half but I really hope all is going well and I wanted thank you for teaching me so much about this hobby. My eagerness to learn about biological ecosystems took me to the level of actually studying biology in college. I am actually moving soon so I will be building a 75 gallon reef tank. Probably is going to take me around 6 months to plan it to what I want it to be exactly. I still have my EV180 and light fixtures and reactors, etc. Can not wait to start this build. Hope you post a video soon man, I know you got a lot going on in your life but you are the one who inspired me to pursue biology and become a biologist. just want you to know that you actually made a pretty big foot print in my life.

***** I added 20lbs of live sand, another 25-30lbs of live rock and put my skimmer in the sump. Now, my display tank is cycling and I had to put most my corals into another tank.
@newyorksteelo
@newyorksteelo 10 жыл бұрын
Wayne Rollins New live rock can not be added to an already established tank as it will likely contain die off and cause a cycle. Instead, it must be cured separately in tubs before it is introduced into an already established tank. You did the right thing by moving the corals. They may have died during the cycle process. The packaged live sand on the other hand could be added to an established tank without issues since these bags normally come with bacteria only and are clean.
