The easiest way to feel your soft pallte when it closed is by smelling some coffee or any other fragrance. If you can still smell the coffee, it means that your soft pallatte still lowered, but if you unable to smell that coffee smell again, then you are successfully closed your soft pallate

I love that you have identified the six variables that allow us to mimick other voices. It seems like the right kind of abstraction to help the pedagogy of singing in general.

Thank you! I have had problems with my soft palate uncontrollably and painfully flexing while I sang Even worse I couldn't find this problem addressed in other singing lessons. Eventually my solution to relax my soft palate was to open my mouth more and do more warm-up/scale exercises. But these exercises are better. Now I will be able to consciously move my soft palate, and hopefully avoid pain.

Those vibration tickle my nose so bad😂 I haven't looked into all your videos, but do you have any video where you demonstrate how the vocal placement impacts the sound of your voice? I'm struggling with opening "the back of my throat". And what would make it more challenging, is going high and low in pitch in that circumstance.

What I still don't understand is the difference between lowering your tongue and raising your soft palate. When I do all of these exercises I can feel my tongue touching my soft palate, but I can't distinguish when the soft palate is raised independently from the tongue. This matters because singing different vowels requires different tongue placements, and I'm not sure how to operate that separately from the soft palate.

How much time would you recommend spending on each component? I'm watching all four of em back to back and repeating the shown exercises for 2 minute each as an everyday morning routine. Is that enough for real results or should I increase the time
@NewYorkVocalCoaching
@NewYorkVocalCoaching 2 жыл бұрын
Brendan suggests that the amount of time necessary will be different for everybody. It is great that you are doing regular daily practice, as consistency is the most important part! If you find you are not seeing results, experiment with increasing the time. Keep us posted on your progress @Kinda Catchy! -NYVC

Can the channel do a video on allergies? My dust allergies make it extremely difficult to have a reliable singing voice. Not only is it more unreliable, it tires the throat quickly and physically clogs up around passagio areas. Sometimes my throat gets sore, damages easily, and audibly cuts out notes because of the “gunk” in the back of the throat. Thanks.

I have a question. When raising the soft palate, do you always have to lower the back of the tongue too?
@NewYorkVocalCoaching

When singing should we keep the soft palate high so no air goes through the nose?
@NewYorkVocalCoaching
@NewYorkVocalCoaching 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on what you want the sound to be. Nasal Resonance (air through the nose) can be very beneficial. Or sometimes the singer wants to have the Soft Palate up to achieve a different sound. Check out Episode 60 on The Soft Palate! -NYSC
