Former TRC lead investigator Advocate Dumisa Ntsebeza has described the legacy of the late former IFP founder Mangosuthu Buthelezi, who passed away on Saturday as complicated and controversial.
Ntsebeza says there are many questions that still remain unanswered about Buthelezi's role in the deadly riots that engulfed South Africa ahead of the 1994 elections.

Sunday, 1st August 1994, Braamfontein railway station, a train heading from Johannesburg ‘Park Station’, headed towards Mohlakeng stopped to pick up people! Usually it would stop for about 3 minutes but this time around it stopped longer! We were all surprised, and as we look through the windows they rushed into our couch, bloodthirsty men armed to the teeth with traditional weapons! One yelled, ziphi izinja? (Where are the dogs??) I looked at my late aunt, baffled…‘Aunty, what dogs are they looking for, they look very angry, so whenever took their dogs better return them’, I said! ‘Shhhh, they will kill us!!!’, my aunt said!!! I had come face to face with the IFP hooligans, at the time the war was about the brandishing of ‘traditional weapons’, in my view they were looking for anything to cause anarchy! In the news later, there was talk of many injured and some killed people because they were determined to cause mayhem!!! They were holding the entire country hostage!!!

Even Zulu ppl in KZN were killed so it wasn't about protecting Zulu nation but IFP, majority of Zulus murdered too. So, don't generalise Zulu nation rather say IFP.

Some of us are trying to forget the 1990 riots on the East Rand , people lost their lives who were not ANC Members , The .Pressidentis always blamed for Marikana deaths, but we must not say anything about him re the riots,We had to hide boy children in the ceilings , One woman went to the mental institution because her four dons were killed infront of her,He never agreed but he called us IMIGODOYI YASE KATLEHONG THAT TIME, when kids were killed like dogs

I have always been dumbfounded by this concept of " Zulu or X nation" within a country. I thought a nation refers to all people of one country not some tribes. Im glad even some South Africans have same question. I have always wondered whether South African, in general, find the idea of Zulu Nation, Venda Nation, Ndebele Nation, etc, all in one country, normal?

As human beings we always have a choice to make for our survival or in order to preserve what we think its best for our legacy .The danger is what we choose can be good or have bad repercussions in our lives in some you even work with the worst enemy (apartheid) in this case .There are everyday jobs we presume are legal from which people are earning a living but are so detrimental towards other peoples lives but they cause pain and suffering to others and no one will ever be persecuted It all depends whom are you serving. Maybe if the Prince didn't choose to work with the enemy black person will be history by now we need to remember that the Zulu nation was the chosen one to preserve black heritage and that that may not perish because without culture one may be killed by other nations.His departure must be awakening to those left behind and find solutions May his soul rest in peace.
