At least seven people were killed when a bus in Rio de Janeiro, drove off a flyover bridge and plunged into the busy road below. The injury and death tally is unknown as of yet although at least seven people are confirmed to have been killed.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus driver had been engaged in a heated argument with another passenger shortly before the bus drove off the flyover.
The bus flipped during the fall and landed on its roof.
Privately owned bus operators in Rio de Janeiro have notoriously poor safety records, with buses frequently overcrowded and no seat belts available for passengers.
In the congested South American city, the bus is the most popular form of transport for the millions commuting across the city each day.
