@Hasan-Firas
@Hasan-Firas 7 ай бұрын
I totally get the demotivation part. After studying very hard in 12th grade, I got the second worst marks in the class, while the mfing student who was the biggest failure in school got the best marks because he has a fathee who owned 4 companies and some of his family works in the ministry of education. Mind you, this student was never good at anything, he came to my school when we were in 7th grade, and he could barely count to 10 and didn't know how to read or write. Also, no, he didn't have any mental illnesses, he was just careless about primary school his entire life and just kept on going out with his friends who were exactly like him. And even in this school, he still did the same exact thing, and got himself kicked out of class 90% of the time in school. Literally and absolutely did nothing, but the teachers were afraid of his father as HE was the one who was funding the school and 80% of their salary is just from his father, so they could never make him fail. Not only that, but when we were in 9th grade, our best 2 students got out of school and had to do the school year again because he changed their marks with his and his friends', the same thing he did to me in 12th. Literally the worst and least educated students got the highest marks, while me and my friend, who were the best in class, got the least 2. What's more surprising? I was the best student in math in the whole history of my school, which expanded for over 50 years, and I got the lowest mark in math while he got the highest. After that, I lost all motivation to study in my stupid education system, and idc if people think I'm a failure, especially when my school was a special school that only tests students based on how they think, not memorize

This is all so true. Especially the part about the differences in the way people learn. School feeds everybody the same meal, and doesn't think about how some kids have allergies, or are vegetarian, or gluten-free. Personally, I have ADHD, so in classes like science were it's mostly lectures and memorization, I have trouble focusing, and especially staying committed to a class I couldn't care less about. My teacher didn't care to address these differences, and thought that if you were struggling, it meant you were a failure or on your phone all the time and not listening, not that you simply learned different (and I wasn't on my phone all the time!). Meanwhile, in classes like Drama, I love that class to death because it's interactive, it can engage me, and the teacher sincerely cares and tries to support all his students. What I'm saying is, that even in a class like Science, where I'm not really interested, if they had taught it differently, I totally sure I could've excelled. If it wasn't dependent on lectures and stressful burnouts over studying, every single kid in that class would've done well, instead majority of the class forgetting everything almost instantly, struggling to learn, and being constantly guilt-tripped by their teacher for not doing well. I love watching science videos on youtube (which taught me more than science class ever did), but I hate science class. Half the time I watch videos on the same subjects I was taught. And yet, I'll remember more from videos, and I'll be more likely to seriously think about if after, instead of just to pass a test. But in science class? I nearly fail. The school system needs to stop teaching and everyone the exact same thing, and making it even more stressful for the kids who need something else to catch up. They need to stop feeding everybody the same meal.

Teachers: life is a competition Also teachers: EvEryOnE Is EqUaL Edit: Hi I wrote this two years ago when I was a dumb middle schooler. I am still getting replies to this 😅 I understand that what I said was not the smartest and I have changed my opinions, but I still share a lot of the same beliefs on the school system. Everyone comes from their own back round and has to fight their way in life, but in the end we are all human and we should all have equal rights and opportunities. (Which will sadly never happen) The school system is still very flawed in my eyes and has a bad way of distributing ideals. I believe that is why when I was younger I shared that opinion because that is how school expressed it. I hope the systems improve for future generations because the way things are right now are crude.

Honestly, I can agree with the lack of autonomy and room for passion so much. I have a passion for writing, specifically storytelling. Last year at my school, I feel like the writing curriculum was more free and creative. (it was a social studies/writing hybrid). We got to write stories based off of what we studied from that unit (ex. native tribes, colonial days, etc), and we learned crucial writing skills too. The only downside is that we had to take a lot of notes, but I remembered most of it. This year, the curriculum is more restricted. We have to follow a set of instructions on what to write about and how to write it, compared to last year where it was free and creative. The only thing we do is write short essays, but we learn writing skills as well. I really want to improve my story writing skills, so I feel like this system isn’t that flexible to every student. We all learn about the same thing even if we’re not that passionate about it. If you even made it this far, thanks for reading my ted-talk, lol!

School has always felt like a box to me. Always doing the same things over and over, and it has really never ever changed. The school system is not taking notice that each student has a different way of learning and thinking, has different needs, and just needsssss to pay attention more to students mental health. Like in my own experience, math has really never been my strong suit. I have had some teachers who have really helped me with math. Helping find what things help me, well, learn math. And it actually felt more like learning, then just the pressure of having to remember. While on the other hand, other teachers I have had have for math have not even really cared. And even if I ask for help, yes they may help me, but not recognize that I have a different way of thinking and learning when it comes to math. So I just hope one day there will be change.

For my school we had something called passion projects, where students would make a project out of their passion, and the student with the best project would get award that would have your name on it, but you don’t actually get to keep the award. One of the core reasons I now have an unexplained and incurable resentment to my family. And I go on and began calling my race dehumanizing things because surface value makes them more plastic and fake on the inside. And I learned that I live with liars and imposters. What's worse is that after graduation, the dopamine's gone, and you're left with constant nagging from your family who wants you to get a job, so they can use you as a source of income. And then you look at the reports and the market, learning that this year's job hunt is much worse since pandemic. Competition is hell, but I rather spend time finding a job worth my time and value, and make it meaningful than doing it for a quick buck. Bonus points for breaking away from being Catholic since the whole "sheep mentality" is now found everywhere in society. Doesn't matter if you're successful or religious. If you don't wake up to the harsh and bitter reality, then you are a slave to society and yourself.

As an American, my high school junior year English teacher might be the only teacher I can remember who was able to lecture effectively. He allowed us to control most of the conversation, as well as introduce our own topics and perspectives. And I still remember all of the fun tangents we sometimes explored. I remember having to discuss the question of whether money could buy happiness, and I brought up that the question has a flaw, in that it could be asking whether exchanging money for items brings happiness, or whether just having money in itself brings happiness. (Everybody likes large sums of money in their bank accounts, but when they buy items that might make them happy, that sum diminishes by some amount.)

I'd like to see a follow-up video to this one proposing some solutions. I'm a teacher and just spent 3 weeks teaching in a school where students have an enormous amount of freedom, with great flexibility to spend time on what they would like. The result was a catastrophic amount of wasted time with students constantly on their laptops and not doing anything productive, really unmotivated students who lacked the capacity to sit through any amount of direct teaching, and were about 5-6 years behind in their learning.

well as a student i can say maybe a phew things my words are not great maybe you could try to do something interesting like asking questions mostly because they will get more interested if someone actually cares about what they think but is also possible that they never even want to learn this in the first place, idk what your class is but even if you are a good teacher and you have a good student that good student just might not be interested or is just bored because they have to sit on there asses for 5+ hours its kinda like the classic students being treated like lazy but you can try actually connecting with your students and maybe understanding that not everyone will care about it

I was a front bencher in school but I personally blame myself for not going the extra mile to use my brain. I would focus on what was being taught in class, I would go home, study it and understand it. It would come on exam and I would simply recall the concept and answer it. The whole process lacks thinking, I never pondered on how to solve the problem more efficiently nor thought why it was solved that way. The problem is that the system doesn't stimulate a average student to question and think.

This is so nicely said. You should make one about bullying. It’s not as simple as teachers make it out to be. Kids aren’t going to tell the teacher immediately. They might be afraid to because the bully may be threatening them if they do. I WISH it was as simple as teachers make it out to be. But the “Hey, that really hurt me inside.” phrase is what the BULLY WANTS. They want a reaction out of it. And the “Oh, I’m sorry. Can we be friends?” is so unrealistic I don’t even know where to start. People aren’t going to trust the bully immediately after they apologize. (If they even apologize.) You can forgive, but you don’t have to trust the person right after.

My math and reading teacher do this, they’ll mark a question wrong say we can retake but the thing with my reading teacher we have to say why is the actual answer right instead of the one we chose without giving us the actual answer meaning you can still get it wrong and have to ask someone else, my math teacher just tells us the exact same thing over again. I like my social studies teacher because he’s real with us, we do discuss the meaning of quotes or random events but they’re more recent than most and we talk about how we’re going to 8th grade, are we really ready. He can’t do much but I feel like if they let him he’ll actually prepare us for life. Health teacher straight up tell us random things we need to know, not necessarily teach us but we did have typing for her class for a bit

This is a great video and as a student ambassador some key points i've learnt are: - despite our wold is changing really fast, school isn't. -the modern world values people who can communicate thier ideas, be creative and collaborate with others yet in school we are told to be quiet during class time and not talk. -when you grow older, you need to manage your own time but at school we have no control and are told what to do. this won't help us grow and just follow what we are told to do. -seating plan should be based on how good you are at the subject. However I need solutions, complaining about it will only bring it to light but with no solution I can't do anything. So if anybody has ideas please comment for a better generation.

I wish school for kids was more like university. You get autonomy, things like communication skills and teamwork are actually valued, you're doing something because you're passionate about it and not because you've been forced to, if you're a slow learner there is a lot of help available for you (schools can't because of money and time issues), unis also leverage technology as they teach you how to code, do research properly etc...

School teaches things in a way that will be relevant only until a test is held, a test that doesn’t measure what you learned, but instead what you managed to memorize. I say that as a B to A grade student (graduated last year), who never will remember 60% of what I learned in school, but still managed to graduate without repeating years or having to go through recuperating exams. And yet here I am, in college for a thing i am passionate about and having a decent paying job. Good on ya, School system, you almost made my life's first 18 years seem worthless, but I now see the real abominatiom you are, a doctrination camp that cares more about putting useless shit in children's minds than treating them like human beings.

For me, essays is not a problem. Im an aspiring author so as long as i have the ideas, i can write it shorter than 20 minutes. 5 paragraphs with 5 sentences each. The real problem is that sometimes, the information about the topics given to us confuses me and gives me headache. Sometimes, it takes me an hour just to complete 1 with correct grammar. Now, imagine all my classmates who doesn't know English and doesn't know how to write essays. To be honest, im the best among the class when it comes to literature. My fellow classmates couldn't even write a sentence with correct grammar. They always ask me to translate our language to English, which annoys me most of the times because even me are having a hard time writing one and they keep asking for help. Take note. We are already grade 11 students and i am the only confident with my English literacy. If the education system really works, why am i the only one able to do it properly? Even i fail at grammars most of the times. How about the others? School really is not a place to learn. It's a place where you must pass in order to gain useless titles like "college degree" and such. Now, im really scared for my future. 25% of my knowledge came from school. The rest came from my own experiences reading manga and anime and internet. Thanks for the depression and stress school. I wish i could still live until my old age but it seems your "wonderful" system will make it faster for me by 40 years.

It really sucks that we are so limited in things we are actually interested in bc we only get 2 periods of art, 2 periods of music and 2 periods of ICT and only one of those are for learning about coding and stuff like that. And those are things am really wanting to explore . Meanwhile we have maths EVERY👏SINGLE👏DAY!

I showed this to my mom and dad , and they really understood the strees i was going thru school. The only subject that i really paid attention in was band, cause it actually helped my stress. I enjoyed playing the trombone and helping my freinds out in band which i liked cause they wouldn't really bother you if you were talking to someone. Homework and all the other subjects on the other hand were very stresful. The homework was in the way of my day after school cause i would play basketball or hop on the xbox and play with my freinds, and the homework just took to much time for me to have fun. AND if i didn't do it, not only me but all of us would get in trouble. School is not making me feel confident about my future. I got depresión for taking all these useless exams. Cause your only going to get to college if you behave at school and do all your exams and work just to get another job that is stress full. Someone please send this to there principal.

Students can memorize and understand when been thought in lessons tho. That one time during "history" remedial lesson, i was able to fully memorize and understand to answer the questions the proper way. Meaning, if that question is questioned in that particular format, you have to answer in that format and you need to be 2 sided in the source thats has been given(that being said, i need to actually like have info by doing research. Like seriously wtf is lesson if at the end of the day im just gonna learn myself by doing a god damn research on the internet. The textbook is thick but doesn't contain alot of info tbh).
