NF did say I'm not a rap God. I don't need you people to bow to me

This is one of those songs that we will never really know if it was a response or not.NF was asked during an interview about the line in Eminem's the Ringer and he said that he doesn't know if it was directed at him and even if it was he doesn't know if he would respond to it but who knows 😂 some of us like to believe there is a back and forth game between the two or more like imagining there is 😂 Great reaction !!

The entire track is filled with em references. If you know em's music well enough you hear it. You're clearly very familiar with em.

T&A line I do not believe is, however, Cocky Smile off your face, gasoline, there was the video where Em and Dre burned down the ladies house, and stood there smiling, also, The song was on Kamikaze album, which was known as Em's Hitlist, (write my name bar). Shoot you out of the sky..... you are not landing, kamikaze planes dont land. There are several referrals in this song I believe without it being direct enough to start something bigger.

Think about the phrase "drop the "T&A/ Tna" i.e tits and a$$, feels like it's only me. It could allude to the point that 99% of popular rappers default to filling their vids with scantily clad women and stunt tactics so he feels like it's only him that's successful without the lowbrow eye candy filler. I actually am of both minds on that sections possible interpretations. Thoroughly enjoyed watching your process of peeling back the levels of lyrical genius. Of course this song is targeted towards EM. 1) Nate is a purposeful and thoughtful writer, who uses his word choice very carefully 2) Nate is also a person of pride who cares about, not only his craft, but how others perceive him 3) Nate loves MM and is most likely concerned, moreso than any other person, how em sees him 4) Nate most likely knows about and acknowledges hes the target of that very slight rub that em threw at him in the ringer 5) Nate is a student of the genre, and most likely like practically everyone else, uses flows, structures, words and phrases that others use (he's acknowledged some)...i'm not saying he steals lines, but there are definitely some similarities to other songs, but 5) going back to point 1 above, he is a careful writer and it's no accident that there are MANY lines in returns that point to MM, directly....sure, there may be some instances where it's just a choice phrase that just so happens to appear in songs that Em used in that past (nate studied and studies EM so it's going to happen), but if we think that Nate didn't purposely poke em in this song with the number of references we see, well, not sure what youre listening to. Sure, Nate is going to say in the interview that he wasn't targeting Em, but, do we really believe that Nate is going to publicly admit he was talking about his idol in this song, just so his inspiration comes back and trashes him in a rebuttal (you know it would happen)...I don't think Nate wants that. But, Nate is also a prideful person and he was hurt......just my opinion, but again, Nate doesn't just craft lyrics without having purpose and meaning in them.... just not who he is as an artist

Also, the shoe bars in the beginning... "walk a mile in my shoes"... and then the line about screws that is reminiscent of Em's line "I got screws loose". The airplane in the sky being shot down from Kamakazi.

There's a more direct line at Eminem on "One Hundred": "Told me that your record was the greatest, but you lied though Told me they consider you a God, yeah, well I don't"

The fact that the artwork for the album Em dissed NF is a plane and he clearly says “shoot you out of the sky like you’re punchlines you are not landing” always had me leaning to it is a response to Em but not certain.

“Wearing my merch stomping on your arrogant turf”… they’re both from Michigan. And he had the like “your gun jammin” like killshot. And the line about “take a can of gasoline” could be a reference to the line em has in forgot about Dre.

em also use to say he'd give his Kim tongue lashings in his verses, and nf used "tongue lashings" in that verse

I think it’s a subliminal diss. This was after the NFing clone of me, which was on the Kamikazee album. NF mentions shoot you out the sky like your punchlines you are not landing. Which most people never caught the NFing diss in the ringer.

Now i know im reaching, but at the end "no more to you, is not to me the outcast finally returns" is not just nf saying im back but referencing "Without Me" when em says "they dont want marshall no more". My reasoning for that is simple af. The Eminem Show was Ems big return after a while of nothing. This was Nates big return and this time, hes the one people anticipate

Before I even watch this reaction, this is one of my faves by NF!

I think the most direct evidence is in Em's The Ringer, he says "an FN clone of me." He reversed NFs initials. (And he's definitely talking about NF because otherwise he would just say the F word.) In this song NF "Returns" the call out. He says "Pushing forward, look I can't ignore it". Ignore what? The call out. Then "drop the T and A (t!ts and a$$, or vulgarity) and there's only "ME". Which is Em reversed. Plus everyone is right about all the other references. IMO, NF was honored to be called out by Em, it's part of the game. So his Return to the call out is also a sign of respect.

What I found interesting about The Ringer is that Em says to MGK that he doesn't use subliminal disses, but basically did a subliminal diss to NF.

I always felt like this wasn't a diss to Eminem, more like an acknowledgement. More like a, "I heard what you said. I'm over here doing my thing, let me do my thing.". Subtle jab, if anything.

I might be reaching, but NF has always looked up to eminem, so that line might just be a shoutout to em saying they could be a team (as in em could feature in an NF song or vice versa) but that the current album doesn't feature anyone ("...feels like it's only me").

Its not entirely a reach. It was speculated and we wont ever know until one of them admits to it. Eminem will notmally not take the long road to a fiss but he likes to throw out there the "corny white rappers" line here and there and NF on one kf his songs said something along the lines of "legends subliminally dissing is still a compliment" and some other lines generically pointed at someone who was attacking. Idk, its definitely possible

I think NF is wayyyyy too clever to fire back at Em whether Ems diss was aimed at him or not. NF does what he does and he wouldn’t risk that by trying to fire at Eminem. He MIGHT throw some lines in to make you think it, but I don’t think he’s actually firing anything towards Em.

Was it targeted at Em? 100%. Is it a diss track? Not even close. But it wasn’t supposed to be. It’s just letting him know he’s here and he doesn’t appreciate what Em said in ringer. And Em never responded after this so I choose to believe Eminem backed off him and let him do his thing

I always thought this one was a reach probably, but I never understood why nobody talks about the line in "paid my dues" that references Em & Joyner in "lucky you" NF: "Makin moves, I need some room" Em: "yall gotta move, give me some room"
