Goff had a 121.9 Rating vs the Rams. Stafford had 120.9. At worst Goff was even. Goff had an 81% completion %. Just so tired of lazy takes.

Justin Penix is smoking literal crack cocaine. Jared Goff was 2nd in passing attempts, 2nd in passing yards, and 4th in touchdowns in both the regular AND post season last year. And the only reason he didn’t have more touchdowns, is because we have the best running back tandem in the league. He is the guy.

There's one big glaring question with the lions for me. And it's the kicking situation. Outside of the secondary it was the group last year that caused a ton of groans.

Technically he is not a sophomore, sadly the only example of a start of a career like that is Rodgers, and after his first 8-8 season he never looked.

As far as the lions pash rush DJ reader will help their pass rush. And as far as golf goes hes been playing like a top 5 QB the past 2 years and the past 2 years he has been the best QB in the nfc north

When I look at it the key for the Lions is to improve on defense, which is almost a given, all they have to do is work and it will happen, and to not lose ground on the offense, and I think that will also happen. Ben Johnson proved last year that he could evolve his system. Not to mention that even if he cannot, the Lions do not have to win with scheme, the opposition can know exactly what they are doing, they still have to stop them, and the Lions are just too talented for someone to not win their matchup, and Goff is too fast through his progressions and the OL is too good to not generally provide him time to get it there. With the Bears all you have to do to look at how Caleb will do is look at where Shane Waldren was before. While Caleb may surpass Geno Smith in year one I am not sold on that. Smith as a veteran QB that has a lot of tenure in the NFL, his headspace in game is going to be at another level than where Caleb is, especially early on. With the Vikings it will be similar to the Lions, they have a lot of talent on offense and they will win some matchups there. But their OL is not as good nor their QBs, who other than Mullens are in their 1st year in this system. Also, Darnold has never proven to be consistent, so I agree with that. The Packers are very close to the Lions. 8Jordan Love is going to be a very similar QB to Josh Allen in the passing game, the run game he is no Josh Allen. And the Packers defense is going to be much better, but again, year one in their system. The other thing the Packers lack is dominant weapons on offense. They have good players, but no one has elevated to that superstar status that is going to beat a double or triple team when you just have to have it. All in all I think this shapes up for the Lions to win the division again, the Packers to heat up at the end and make it interesting again, and the Bears and Vikings to both vie for wild card spots. I can totally see the NFC North putting three teams in the playoffs this year with the 3rd team being a 9-10 win team. The Packers should be a 10-12 win team but could go higher if some of their young offensive weapons emerge. The Lions should be a 12-14 win team and bring home the bacon. I fully expect them to be playing in the Super Bowl this year.

QB is the most important position in sports, look what Chase did for Burrow's development. I think a big part of the the edge vs. wr talk that is missing from this conversation, is how you see those guys. Many people see Odunze as a tier 1 WR prospect while they see these edge guys as more tier 2 type of prospects.

Sometimes I wonder if Penix just throws shit at a wall and hopes it sticks , Goff was NOT the problem in the playoffs , that 49ers game was reynolds drop passes and MCDC making bad bad decisions on 4th down , and our DBs sucked

I think it's less that he's a problem and more that he's just not-a-problem. He doesn't elevate the team like some of the other top qbs do and that's gonna hold you back when you go against those guys.

@@TheMattTrakkeri mean i think thats absurd. Watching matt stafford try the playoffs 3 times, jared goff blew his performances out of the water. Stafford held us back in playoff games. Goff propelled us to 2 wins and put up 31 on sf. 0 ints. Most passing yards....i mean he literally led us.

This man just said the bears talent isn’t up to par with the rest of division lol, we have the best defense in division already, and now we have the best wr group in division, we had the best running game in division as well even tho fields had a lot to do with that but the stats are the stats, and we basically beat the lions twice last year with Justin fields lol
@pierredorsey7983
@pierredorsey7983 3 ай бұрын
You do not have the best wr group in the north. The run game argument is eh. Because packers run game was hurt practically 9 to 10 weeks of the season . Your best hope is Williams is actually good. I think yall actually messed up getting rid of fields . He didn't have this kinda squad with him at any point in his career. So why not give him these weapons and see what he does could have sat Williams a year and then make a decision.

Such a weak take. San Fran has been in the conference championships like four years with shit hound QBs. Goff is like 6th in the league in playoff wins. So dumb. It's like the easiest, laziest, low hanging fruit take. Goff is not elite but he is second tier and beat Stafford in the playoffs, and beat Mahomes on the road.

I agree with all that but am curious who you have in tier 1. I have only mahomes in tier 1. My tier 2 includes goff, stafford, purdy, lamar, allen, hurts, burrow and pry stroud (as long as hes jot shit this year) tua is borderline tier 2...gotta gimme a playoff win tho first. Pry same for herbert

@@brokentubing What I do to shut up Bears fans is show them this wonderful video of college highlights of two QBs kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a7B_ZLOk2taqj4k.html who are nearly identical - so long as you don't specifically count when the QB makes passes that suck. Like under-throwing them so badly that the defense can make a play _only because_ they ball was placed badly, or floating a pass so unnecessarily high it should have. The 2 QBs are Fields & Williams. Fields makes two throws that get his receivers tackled. Caleb throws at least ten that do or should have & will definitely lead to INTs in the NFL. See, the thing is NFL coaches & GMs are no less vulnerable to group-think than the fans. Sometimes even more because drafting against the accepted wisdom & failing can lead to firing whereas failing by going along with it doesn't. So we have Video Evidence that Fields is a Superior Passer to the Second Coming & fans & NFL coaches alike refuse to see it. You don't have to believe it. Just use it to shut Bears fans up & tell them to enjoy their 6th-rounder.
