I can't hate on teams doing the lateral play when they're down and the clock is at 0:00 even if the lateral play goes badly. You have to try to do something when you're in that situation. What else are you supposed to do? Just give up? Obviously the situation the Pats were in was stupid because the game was tied. But when you're losing, you have to throw the ball around.

And with the Pats, I don't think they were even trying for a lateral play. Rhamondre Stephenson wasn't supposed to give it to Meyers, so literally no one else on the field, least of all Mac Jones, had any idea the play was going to go that way.

At least Jimmy G got bailed out, his safety actually did him a favor because he would’ve been throwing an embarrassing pick six. That Colts play against the Patriots is still one of the dumbest plays in NFL history but Jakobi Meyers literally threw away the Patriots playoff chances because if they won that game in overtime against the Raiders (possibly even a tie with them) then them losing their last game wouldn’t have mattered and they would’ve been in.

A question at 6:40: Consider San Francisco, in this "last play of the game desperation play" situation, where they are losing by less than a field goal. Let's say things go slightly better for SF and they get within field goal range, but the ball carrier gets surrounded by Falcon players and only has a few seconds before he is tackled. Is he allowed to drop kick the ball through the goal posts? Or would it be blown dead?

Excellent question. I looked into it, and FG attempts are only allowed on scrimmage plays (kickoffs don't count unless the receiver signals a fair catch, in which case the receiving team is allowed an uncontested FG attempt from the point of the catch.) Furthermore, field goal attempts (place kicked or drop kicked) are only allowed to take place at or behind the line of scrimmage. In short, yes, as long as it is a scrimmage play and the kicker does not advance beyond the line of scrimmage before attempting the kick.

Thats something you see on a MADDEN game. 2:55 knew this would be on here. what a way to get a 7th straight round 2 loss. 7:38 at that point if the ball wants to try to pinball and you were on offense you should just boot it really out of bounds. I was hoping the rams vs buccs one in jan 2022 where the ball gets hiked 20 yards backward from the qb would get on. I call that the "rams throw a hot dog down a hallway" play.
