This is a classic NFL football game. I play as the San Francisco 49ers against the Dallas Cowboys on Hall of Fame Difficulty.

Haha. Every Friday when I was in 7th grade, my friend and I used to draft a team and play an hour game against each other on this game. We would get in trouble in school for writing out draft selsections and back up plans in class (even to the point of detention a couple of times). Now I'm a data analyst and he's an accountant. Turns out those drafts were the best educational training we could do I suppose.

I agree. It had features like Total Control Passing, in which you could decide to bullet pass or lob as well as overthrow or underthrow your receiver. In addition,. it had a defensive shoulder charge (L2 + X), which I consider similar to the modern day hit stick. Also, it has the same button combination as recent Madden titles to dive over the pile (L2 + Square).

Playing against my brother, I felt like he was cheating. He put this password in; Hamstrung, and all his players were blowing their hamstrings. "What?! Blown hamstring, out for 2 weeks!?!", while I'm just *_LAUGHING_* right beside him!!! Closest you could get me to having fun playing one of these type of video games.

This was my first game for the PS1 when I was in 7th grade. I remember the old school big boxes it came in. At the time these graphics were like a massive upgrade from Sega days, we've came a long way lol

The best thing about this game is when you play 2 players on the same team, player 2 can steal the ball off the kicking tee and run it down field so you never have to give the ball up.

Especially with Barry Sanders. I remember faking out so many defenders with his juke...Good times. It's an abomination that Madden 22 is a broken dumpster 🔥 of a game compared to this.

Wow...I got GameDay 99 on my 13th birthday--it was the first football game I owned for the PS1, and I don't know why I chose it over Madden. Before that, the most up-to-date football game I owned was NFL Quarterback Club for the SEGA Genesis, and I had been late getting around to the PS1/N64 generation of consoles. Anyway, seeing GameDay 98 makes me realize what a big deal GameDay 99 was! Better players, better animations, running commentary from Phil Simms and Dick Enberg (a la NFL on NBC, who had also broadcasted the most recent Super Bowl at the time)...

theres a glitch in this game on kick returns, if you return the ball and hug the sideline and just run straight a defender will come and try and tackle you but if you just keep sprinting straight you bulldoze the defender straight back into the end zone this was long before the days of patches. so much nostalgia these games intros are the best when it was real football and the defenders could try and decapitate opposing qb's and wr's. nfl knows madden games have sucked the last decade but people keep buying it every year so why would they bother making better product its a shame.

So I played this waaaayyyy too much when I got it. First thing I would do is trade high ranked players to the 49ers (my team...still) especially Barry Sanders. Then I always used the field goal defense because I could get a sack a high percentage of the time; forcing fumbles a few times. Then between Barry Sanders and Jerry Rice, I’d score @100 points per game. Oh good times...

2 targets to Jerry Rice. I admit I was screaming at you to get it to Rice more And you still won I’m actually impressed Cowboys couldn’t get their run game going. Missed tackles on that 49ers winning TD from Young to Stokes. Barry Switzer was an idiot regarding their next to last drive and utilizing timeouts

Is it possible to get an interception in this game?

It is possible, but it doesn't occur often. There are two ways: 1) A defender hits the receiver, causing the ball to stay in the air for a split-second in which another player is able to catch it. This case is more likely to happen. 2) A defender is the only one in the vicinity of where the ball will land and can catch it. It was much easier to get an interception in NFL GameDay 99 and in the following games.

@@dbmajor Thanks for the quick response. I guess it seemed like MADDEN had random historic teams, not just the Superbowl teams....no??? And the All-Time teams I assume are just "team specific". Debating if I want to start playing Gameday over the MADDENS for retro ent. Maybe not if they didn't have as many historic teams as MADDEN. Thanks!!!!

@@SpiritMover314 Yes, Madden had random historic teams. Each entry in the franchise would add/remove teams, but there were more overall compared to GameDay. You could also enter codes to unlock even more teams and classic stadiums. The All-Time teams for GameDay are team specific.

@@SpiritMover314 No problem. For Madden 2000 on PS1, you can unlock classic teams and stadiums by playing Great Games in Situation Mode. There is also a code entry menu found in system options. These codes unlock teams, stadiums, and cheats. Here is a link to the codes: gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/197824-madden-nfl-2000/cheats Madden 2001 and 2002 have a couple of options to unlock teams. The first is just like Madden 2000 by playing Great Games in Situation Mode. The other way is by creating a User Profile and earning tokens to buy packs of Madden Cards that contain all of the unlockables.

That's because this was late 90's heading into 2000. Before the realm of PlayStation 2 and the rest. Go take a look at SNES football. At the time this was a major leap.
