I visited the Raiders’ camp in the spring of 1984. All the Raiders where very cool to me, but Howie was especially gracious, even taking the time ask me who I was and to chat with me a bit. Class act. Coach Flores was also most gracious.

In 1984 the raiders still had summer training camp at the El rancho Tropicana in Santa Rosa California. I would ride there on my bicycle daily to watch practice. The raiders stories about partying in the summer around town are endless in the Santa Rosa area. One famous John matuszak quote, we always do it all boy...

Howie Long was a beast even as a young kid. We went to Bunker Hill school as kids and he towered over everyone at that age. His most famous schoolyard antic was when we played punch-ball on the old asphalt baseball diamond and he’d knock the ball up to the roof of the school! Every damn time - it was hilarious. The old WWII era janitor named Charlie would retrieve them once a week. Fun times.

Not this toned down soft pussyfied version of the game where offense has free rein to do whatever and defense can’t hit ANYONE!
