Roger Staubsch threw the ball to the very wide open Jackie Smith in the end zone, who dropped what would have been a game tying TD. It was third down, Cowboys had to settle for a FG, and would go onto lose the game by 4 points, final score 35-31. The drop produced one of the most legendary sound bites of all time, when the late Verne Lundquist exclaimed “Caught! Touchdown! Dropped! Dropped in the end zone, Jackie Smith all by himself. Oh bless his heart he’s got to be the sickest man in America.”
