@JKSSubstandard

@@jackoshmako1193 Its to prevent teams from using penalties or reviews as free timeouts. Imagine the offense runs up to the line, and before the players even line up snap the ball, take a 5 yard false start and use the time the ref is announcing it to call in a play and set up, or they use a replay review of a close play as a free timeout to huddle and substitute for a critical play. So the 10 second runoff was put in place to prevent offenses from abusing these moments of officiating for free plays and huddles. Its the same reason why the game cannot end on a defensive penalty. Defenses would just foul the hell out of the other team to end the game.

@matrixphijr
@matrixphijr 3 жыл бұрын
None of you have any idea why that call was overturned, and it's giving me a migraine. So here we go... Doesn't matter when his knee went down. Doesn't matter when he broke the plane. 2:19 gives the best look at why it's not a completion for a touchdown -- If he had caught the ball standing on two feet, then turned and dove for the endzone, it would've been a touchdown as soon as the ball crossed the line. However, when he makes the catch, he is in the process of diving/falling to the ground. Since that is the case, he MUST maintain possession of the ball throughout the process of falling to the ground. It doesn't matter _when_ the ball crosses the line in this case, except retroactively, to rule that the play is a touchdown, AFTER the catch is complete. Think of it this way: if his route had put him entirely in the endzone (so, basically, imagine the 5 yard line is the goal line for the purposes of this example), it wouldn't be a touchdown as soon as the ball hits his hands. He has to catch the ball and prove that he's in control of it for a length of time before it can be ruled a touchdown. The "crossed the plane" rule only applies when possession happens _before_ that point. If possession hasn't been established yet, the play continues until such a time that it is, at which point it is *then and only then* ruled a touchdown. Does that make sense? Now... go back and watch from 2:19. You'll notice that as he lunges for the endzone, one of his hands comes off the ball, and it hits the ground with only one of his hands loosely on the side of it. That makes it incomplete, which means that the officials now can rule that there is no touchdown, because the ball was never caught in the first place. Even though he "made a move" toward the endzone (i.e. changed the direction of his fall mid-fall), because he was in mid-air when he first touched the ball, he has to control it *all the way to the ground, no matter what.* That's why it's not a touchdown, and that's why it was the right call.

That game was stolen from the Bengals by the refs. Antonio Brown ran straight into Burfict and the refs blame the Bengals for Brown not watching where he was going. Besides, people are going to collide with each other in a contact heavy sport. There are going to be guys slamming into each other throughout the game and a lot of players are tackled by getting knocked like that. The only situation I can think of where one of them isn't first and they have to just rule for the offense would be if they're both in possession in the field of play, and carry the ball across the goal line together. In any other situation, they would rule in favour of whoever they think had possession first, and if the replay is too close to call, the call on the field would stand.

I hated the replacement refs and the whole seahawks/packers ending. And the only thing I hate more was how tate and Carroll acted after the call. Like they didn't just win a bs call and eff the packers. No class.

Jesse James didn't have control of the ball when diving and hitting the ground, and his knee was down at the 1 before the ball even broke the plane
@johnathanpatrick6118
@johnathanpatrick6118 3 жыл бұрын
@@Sp616_ James's knee being down at the 1 has nothing to do with it, he wasn't yet touched. But you got the diving and hitting the ground part right; if he'd stayed upright he scores. Since he dove immediately to ground, he's still a receiver and must keep control of the ball. He didn't.
