I’ll play devil’s advocate with this one. The holder had the laces facing away from the end zone, which is a universal no-no due to it being proven that the football could go pretty much any direction. Still doesnt help ease the pain of missing a field goal from that close, but the holder definitely had their part in that miss

There was this playoff game between the Seahawks and the Cowboys. There was less than a minute and a half left in the 4th quarter, the Cowboys are down 21 to 20. The Cowboys were about to kick a field goal, giving them the lead, but after the snap, Tony Romo fails to get a grip of the ball, forcing himself to have to run to the end zone, but was immediately stopped. I feel really bad for John Carney. Most people will only remember him for this missed extra point. As it turns out, the Saints didn't get the help they needed to get into the playoffs, so the crazy lateral play (and win in OT that they would have needed) wouldn't have mattered.

I remember I once told my mom (who hates sports) the story of Scott Norwood missing the field goal at the end of Super Bowl 25. She answered, “See, that’s why no one should play sports. Because you can end up feeling so terrible over something so stupid!” Her answer has stuck with me ever since. I can’t deny that she has a point. Sports are nothing but a silly game. It was the same game as the one with the laterals. Also that kicker who missed that extra point is #5 all-time for total points scored in the nfl. Also, he had not missed an extra point for like the last 200 he did before that. Also, that touchdown was the only successful lateral play since 2000 in the nfl and probably before then too. It’s probably the most famous missed extra point in nfl history

I’ve got another one: the 2006 wildcard game of Cowboys and Seahawks Score is 21-20 with Seattle ahead. Cowboys have it 4th and 1 at the 2 yard line. Ball gets snapped to Romo and he fumbles the snap setting it up for a field goal. He picks it up, runs it, and gets tackled less than a yard from the endzone, fumbles it mid tackle, and Seattle recovers the fumble. You could see the pain in his face in the post-game over that one.

Honorable mention should be the Lions vs Falcons (from like 2017 I think). Lions threw a go ahead touchdown with like 8 seconds left. Officials reviewed the play and ruled the receiver was short of the goal line. Since the runner was tackled in bounds, they called for a 10 second run-off which ended the game since the Lions were out of timeouts. Even more brutal is the fact that the Lions finished the year 9-7, just missing out on the playoffs. So the lions literally missed the playoffs by mere inches that year

And Lions are the only team to lose on multiple 60+ yard field goals on the last play of the game, the 63-yardet by Tom Dempsey in 1970 and the 66-yarder from Justin Tucker in 2021.

#78 of dallas on snow ended his career that moment and was heard to have moved with never returning to dallas in fear of his life. It was crazy we use to have a push out rule for catches.

Um, #78 on Dallas(Leon Lett) had a sure Super Bowl TD slip through his fingers so it was par for the course for him.

Dallas quickly forgave Leon for that and the Cowboys recovered to win the rest of their games on the way to a Super Bowl victory.

I will forever not understand why in the world the Seahawks decided to sign Blair Walsh after this. He single-handedly lost us three games in 2017. We would have won our division that year if it weren't for him.

But for the Cowboys that would be their last loss of the year. They ran the table after that including playoffs on to a Super Bowl victory.

That Seahawks vs Vikings playoff game had so many ramifications for the team. If that kicker makes the field goal, maybe the Vikings go to the Super Bowl and not SEA. Also Teddy Bridgewater never got to be the seater again for MIN since the beginning of training camp the next season, he got a season ending injury, the team almost makes the SB, then they got Kirk Cousins, and haven’t been good since. All the kicker had to do was make the field goal

I would've bet everything I own that if you gave Marshawn three chances to score from there, he does it 100 times out of 100. He wasn't human that year, and he almost scored on the play before too which makes the call even more baffling. The Seahawks literally took the Lombardi trophy and threw it across the field to the Patriots.

As a Packers fan, what makes the Cardinals win over the Vikings so great for the Pack and so painful for the Vikings wasn't simply that it kicked the Vikings out of the playoffs, but that it allowed Green Bay in. It felt like a magical tail end of the year as Brett Favre's dad had just died December 21st, he comes out the 22nd and plays one of the best games of his career against the Raiders and the next week the Vikings have a miracle loss to allow us entry to the playoffs. It was one of the most memorable fandom periods of my lifetime.

2:43 Ever since that tipped Field Goal (later ruled as “Blocked”), or “Double Doink”, there have been many unfortunate exits for each team as they won, that season. Double Doink on the Bears, a missed catch on the Eagles (yep, Alshon), a no-penalty flag on the Saints, and a measly 3-pt score for the Rams, in one of the worst Super Bowls of all time.
