Detroit’s star Wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown continues to make headlines with major off season moves, first re-signing with the Lions for a 4 year $120M extension and now starring in the NFL's new Netflix series "Receiver", following the highly popular Quarterback series last year, the show is expected to be a summer hit.
Ryan, Channing and Fred sat down with 2x Pro Bowler Amon-Ra St. Brown to talk about his upbringing in a strict but motivating household, the recent surge from the Detroit Lions and how he’s utilized the chip on his shoulder from falling in the 2021 draft to becoming one of the highest paid wide receivers in the league.
Amon-Ra shares his family history and mindset developed from a young age, always working harder and playing with a chip on his shoulder after dropping to late rounds in the NFL Draft to naming all 16 wide outs who's name was called before his using it as motivation to not allow someone's name to be called before his when it counted. Ryan talks about watching him during 7 on 7 as a high schooler and was blown away not just with his talent but his grit.
Amon prides himself in being more of a "I can show you better than I can tell you" player as he's had a pivotal role on transforming the Lions from a 3-13 team his rookie year to playing in the NFC Championship this past season and credits the leadership of head coach Dan Campbell and tight knit locker room for Detroit's fast turn around. Falling one game short of the Super Bowl left a sting in the team's core and this offseason has been focused on starting with that same momentum heading into training camp with a roster full of talent, St. Brown knows they are a serious contender, now taken seriously in the league and have a target on their back heading into 2024 season despite still being considered the NFL's underdogs.
St. Brown reflects on the foundations that shaped him from his unique family dynamic having a bodybuilder father, the former Mr. World, who trained him and his two brothers (one of whom also plays in the NFL), and a multilingual mother who exposed the family to diverse cultures around the globe with emphasizing education and experience. Developing a 1% mentality of always being better and outworking the next, whether it was catching 202 passes off the jugs machine daily or lifting weights with his siblings, Amon-Ra spent his life crafting his passion for football and credits his close-knit family for instilling that work ethic and determination that has now defined his NFL rise as a talented, gritty wide receiver, vying for that top spot.
And with the release of NFL's Netflix Series "Receiver", St. Brown's stardom will continue to grow far beyond the gridiron into a household name as his story on and off the field unfolds from a young boy from Compton to now one of the highest paid Wide Receivers in the league. "Receiver" premieres on Netflix July 10th showcasing an unprecedented window into the toughest job in sports featuring St. Brown alongside NFL stars Devante Adams, Justin Jefferson, George Kittle and Deebo Samuel.

Amon Ra, I love how his father took exception to naming his sons. A name is the first window to learning about who a person is. Whether its on paper or spoken, it’s a vital component to building a persons identity. This young man’s work ethic, attention to detail and professionalism were learned and harnessed by the two most important people in his life, (Mom & Dad). I truly love to hear all the praise he gives to the both of them. Amon Ra is the true definition of what comes from dedicating yourself to working hard. As a father of a young son, I can’t wait to use this young man’s shining example for my son’s development. Another awesome conversation!!!! He constantly reminds himself hey you were a 4th rounder. It reminded me of when I began building my wife and my business, I would use everything as a reason to get pissed and prove people wrong. Now my maturity has allowed me to keep moving forward however never forget today is your last day and you could go back to work for someone that scares the shit out of me hell no even now as I write this I'm fired up about it. Amon Ra shows what dedication and hard work can get you. It is a testament to the hard work his parents put into raising 3 boys. Successful parents do not always guarantee successful children, and especially to have all 3 be successful in their own way. It is great that he has such a good and working relationship with his brothers. He mentioned that he liked to dabble in real estate and that his brother was getting his realtors license. He is such a professional in everything he does. I am glad he was still available in the 4th round, because that means he is a Lion today. And hopefully for a long time going forward. Go Lions! You guys are great, thank all of you individually also (for getting to witness your careers as well as so many others that make the sport what it is today & 🐐 TB12 ). Now to Mr. Amon-ra St. Brown, thank you sir, As a lifelong Detroit-er since 1979 (birth) I have witnessed the darkness of being a lion's fan. What you, Mr. Campbell, Mr. Holmes & Everyone else on our beloved team have done thus far is truly remarkable, we are proud of you all, we appreciate your efforts & we believe 💙 if there's a team to win Detroit a superbowl- it's you guys! Congratulations & many blessings ahead. Thank you Amon-Ra for being you & Pivot podcast for showcasing what a gifted young leader we have here in Detroit! & Amon-Ra 1 more thing..... go get that ring!

We’ve had some phenomenal players in Detroit. In my opinion, we’ve only had one that was a straight, DAWG, with the mentality that winning is everything, at all cost. That’s Isaiah Thomas, but now the D has two! Amon-Ra St.Brown shares that mindset.

In retrospect I know he didn’t want to come to Detroit. But Detroit was perfect for Amon-Ra. A place where he can be #1 and prove it. It’s a place of hard work and he has that mentality. Next stop Super Bowl win! Let’s go!

went to high school with him when i was a freshman and I have a distinct memory of walking past him and contemplating asking for an autograph cause I knew he'd go far. I ended up not asking and to this day I wish I did. Dudes a baller and seeing him play in HS to US and now a top 5 reciever in the NFL is badass. Proud of you Amon

Omg, when he mentioned the whistle, lol My husband has instilled into our boys. You hear that whistle something needs to be changed. I was the loudest mom in the crowd telling him how to run, but my husband literally walked around the whole field home and visitors side watching and silently coaching. Our 15 yr old, Beast ❤

We are so blessed to have this kind of access to the players we follow and teams we love. Ryan, Fred and Channing, you guys are amazing - truly great sports journalism here, no BS, all real talk, and most importantly all the right questions! I just gotta say, we Lions fans are incredibly fortunate to have this A+++ dude running routes every Sunday. Just getting started, cannot WAIT to see where they go next. 🔥🔥🔥
