Randy Moss played for the first 13 seasons before retiring for the first time, so he retired for a year before he made a comeback for his 14th and final season in the NFL with San Francisco 49ers. He had longevity than Johnson. Calvin Johnson only played 9 seasons in the league all with the Detroit Lions. Calvin Johnson was a inch taller and weighed more than Moss. Calvin was build like a tight end. Johnson was 6 foot 5 and 240 pound wideout out of Georgia Tech. Moss was 6 foot 4 and weighed 210 pound wideout out of Marshall.

Their speed really isn't comparable and the people saying "both were fast" are way over simplifying and selling Moss short. Calvin was very fast. Moss, as Nate says, could have been an olympic sprinter and is one of the fastest players ever. That is not the same thing. Moss speed was 10/10 while Johnson was an 8/10. It is a serious and highly impactful difference for a WR.

if im making a myplayer on madden, no doubt it's modeled after calvin attributes. but there's a reason why people say "moss'd" and not "rice'd" who's arguably the goat wr. randy had backyard intangibles and feel for the game to ALWAYS be open, whether it was a hitch, dig, post, fade, or out route - he knew how to separate no matter what. it didn't help calvin that he had a shitty OL and defense in his 9 years, but his route running wasnt great by feel but rather he knew the ball was coming, so he's giving one jab move, boxing out and using size and that's the separation im living with

Moss was dramatically quicker and that gives him a large edge overall in a 1 on 1 comparison versus Calvin. Moss made people miss all the time, even in his final season in SF. Calvin was much more heavy footed. As Calvin aged, he became stronger and more physical, but at the expense of some straight line burst and almost all of his short area quickness. Calvin of 2008/2009 could juke guys and had some sweet catch and runs, but by 2009 that part of game had almost completely disappeared and only worsened over time.

Calvin = 731 catches, 11, 619 yards and 83 touchdowns, yards per catch- 15.9, yards per game- 86.1, catch percentage - 55.7. Fumbles - 14. Both were 1st team all pro 3 times in that span (Randy would be all pro again year 10 for a total of 4) So Calvin had more catches and yards but Moss had 18 more touchdowns in his first 9 years which is a large amount. Moss is better and that's not including the additional 306 catches for 4,592 yards and 55 more touchdowns he would add after his 9th year. Moss is better. Calvin is one of the greatest though. Its basically breakdown like would the lions trade Calvin for Randy straight up? Nah, but neither would the vikings trade Moss for Johnson.

The difference for me all boils down to, Randy Moss didn't have to work hard, so he didn't. Calvin Johnson worked like he was a undrafted free agent. I'll take ten Calvin Johnson's and leave Randy Moss for someone else to deal with. If I'm building a team as a GM or a head coach, I want a superstar like Calvin to set the example for the rest of the team. There's a reason why Randy Moss played for 5 teams in his career and Calvin Johnson played for 1.

You're a fool if you don't think Randy worked hard. It's just some players like Moss just like Allen Iverson and plenty of others just don't value expending themselves in practice. Tell me you're over the age of 60 without telling me you're over the age of 60. No shot you actually watched the Vikings in Moss' prime if you feel this way. The reason he was on multiple teams was because of terrible front offices and teams. Bill Belicheck loves Randy moss and says he is one of the highest IQ football players he's ever been around or coached. There is a reason he paired so well with the Patriots and Bill/Tom. Him being traded had nothing to do with work ethic. The GM that traded him from the Vikings in 2004 has never been a GM again. The Raiders were one of the worst organizations in the NFL in 2005. Brad Childress was fired after having Moss cut in 2010. Never was a head coach again. Literally had to become an analyst for the rest of his career. Total moron. Calvin was on one team because the Lions wouldn't trade him and even if they would they would've asked for some ridiculous return noone would have offered. He legitimately chose to retire than continue playing for them

@@kennymorelandiii9406 I'm not saying Randy Moss didn't work hard practice, watch the clip, Nate Burleson said Randy didn't work hard in practice. Nate also said that Calvin Johnson worked like, "he was an undrafted free agent." Now, as for "it ain't a game, it's only practice", that's a lazy mans mentality. Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Kareem, Wilt, even Steph Curry worked/works hard in practice. It's part of being a champion and being able to lead. Randy almost got a ring because he got lucky and latched on with Brady, 18-1. Unfortunately, Calvin was stuck in Detroit, the most snake bitten team outside of the NY Jets. You must be a younger man, because older folks, like myself know, working hard is the way to team greatness. There is nothing to individual greatness if it does not contribute to team success.

Calvin got me thinking. The NFL tends to waste more talents than the NBA. Players used to be stuck and they’re a product of their QB and the Olines at times and they have no choice over who they have at QB or how good their Olines are
@kennymorelandiii9406
@kennymorelandiii9406 9 ай бұрын
Ehhhh not sure I really agree with all that. NBA can waste talent as well if you don't surround a player with enough help and opposing team can just iso and focus on stopping just 1-2 threats. Plenty of players in the NBA have had bad coaching or bad gms or didn't get to play with a good PG or someone capable of really creating opportunities to feed others the ball in good opportunities. Also it's just basically impossible to compare the two sports. There is always players that are what ifs in every league like what if this guy stayed healthy, what if he had a good coach or good talent around them etc. The absolute legends get it done regardless though

Calvin played with the lions and made the HoF in just 9 seasons. He's the 2nd youngest HoF inductee in NFL history behind Gale Sayers. Calvin worked harder and was a more complete route runner. Calvin actually run blocked. Moss is great but he also played on some stacked teams. I can't give it to moss because the one time he was on a bad team in Oakland he gave up and took his ball and went home. Calvin played with orlovsky, Shaun Hill, drew Stanton, ancient Culpepper lol he never had Brain billick or Josh Mcdaniels OC, Cris Carter, Wes Welker with prime Brady and a belichek defense. Football is a team game and for Calvin to do what he did with being triple teamed and having coverages completely rolled over to his side is insane. MEGATRON ALL DAY AND TWICE ON SUNDAYS!!!
