The genuine excitement and "I don't know what to do with myself" expressions after he caught that touchdown made me unbelievably happy for the guy. Awesome story.

He really was the heart of the Giants. LT was their soul. Simms was their brain. One of the best smash mouth football teams there ever was.

I remember this guy in the late 1980s - particularly that he entered the game at the age of 27, hence his supreme work ethic. Moreover, he was/is just a great human being. Talk about class across the board!

Love Phil McConckey . I was at that championship game on that windy evening. And the week before. The crowd always went nuts when McConkey came running out first waving the towel. He embodied all we were around here. Blue collar and tough. Always be beloved around these parts. GO GIANTS!!!

Phil was my favorite player for the Giants. When he caught that TD pass off the deflection of Bavaro,I went almost as berserk as he did! I was almost to tears

Phil-Freakin-McConkey, a true Blue Giant's Legend, he took a hit that bent him backwards. He didn't drop the ball, he jumped up screaming at the guy. Is that all you got? McConkey is a great story. I think every time a player from a service academy or a really small college fullfils their dream, it's worth telling. I remember the NFC championship against Washington. The Giants were desitned and even in perfect weather they'd have had the WFT number. Jay Schroeder was like a deer in the headlights that day!

i actually was on the Navy Team 1979 when Phil McConkney was a graduate assistant at Navy. Under George Welsh. Rather I should say I was the water boy and handled that stinky goat. But hey that is part of the team.

When you watch that old Superbowl and McConkey is twirling his towel around, John Maddon was the commentator and said something funny. He said "McConkey is spinning that thing like a helicopter -- in fact I think he thinks he is a helicopter." Haha! So funny. I'll always think of that comment when I see old clips of McConkey.

my favorite memory is he was waving his towel against the 49ers . under 2 minutes or last play of the game . montana hit rice for td pass . bad mother defenses in the league back then . imagine montana not having to run for his life while playing . any way good to see phil was good guy and walk on . lucky he new coaches father . lol.

Well in my book that's the ultimate nod to have a coach like parcels, or Patriots bill billechek to say I coached these great guys and name you personally and to say they was great. I'm gonna guess that kind of praise did not happen often if at all
