Меня тоже всегда веселит это яростное беспорядочное кручение руля туда-сюда с предсказуемой потерей тяги.

These boats are barely adequate for these conditions and the swift current seems pretty common. This particular boat had a few extra HP, but most don't. You'd think that boat design would evolve or the infrastructure or both. They waste so much fuel like this and tear up so much equipment not to mention dangerous.

@@scdevon It's fine, when skipper knows how to handle it. If you watch other videos of such content - they go thru thousands of times, and only few rookies (or hotheads) stuck. As for efficiency and fuel economy.. those barges have high-rev truck engines, and they are to european ships, what ecoboost hatchbacks are to full-size sedans. You'll be surprised, how much more european tug would waste (not to mention costs in maintenance) if it's gonna make it "up the hill" at all. Big numbers and digital panels are only there, to make you feel you've spent wisely.

They're not starting their run far enough back. They need to have full momentum when entering the gates.

You are correct in loosing momentum but I am sure they are not doing this due to lack of skill, more lack of tracking ability of the vessel. Look at the design and the overloaded condition.

It would seem, I agree. However, I believe sometimes when they JUST make it, they try to kick the front around the Tidal gate a big and get it out of the flow. Doesn't work often, but it does on occasion. The back and forth steering though doesn't seems to help only hinder.

its always faster at the corners, which is a reason to go through the middle and not swing wildly on the helm. Once the boat slows any steering adjustment will cause the stern to move sideways into the faster stream rather than the bow to change direction. Also each correction should be half the previous but i guess he is not listening or observing or he would have gone through in one go.
